We had a nice stay at Otonomous. Our apartment was spacious and comfortable, and we enjoyed good wifi, tv and AC, and easy access to the pool (we had a pool view room with private pool, so we were on the main floor). The staff were all very nice and accommodating, as well. I would note, however, that there were limited cooking supplies (we had to request cutlery and pans, there are no cutting boards, other kitchen tools, or dish towels, etc.). You're also only given one bath towel and one swim towel, which isn't really enough for one week. The soundproofing wasn't good either, so if you have loud neighbours you will hear them (we were lucky to have good neighbours for most of our stay - and overall the guests were friendly and respectful). There was also construction on adjacent buildings during the weekdays, which is an issue if you plan to stay at the hotel for the day (we mainly did day trips). Also, the hotel is not within walking distance to the beach, especially if you have children (it is about a 25 min walk down a narrow busy road that is not safe for walking) - and the beach was covered in sargassum seaweed so not swimmable anyway. We found a nicer beach in Jaguar Park, which is a drive. It is also far from town (15-minute drive). So it's a balance of being more secluded (positive) but less accessible to beach and town. Overall we enjoyed our stay and it's a good launching pad for adventures in the area if you rent a car (or bicycles).

Wonderful experience, beyond our expectations. Staff and owner very friendly. The room was big and clean. Fully equipped kitchen. Very nice pool. The location is fantastic, close to beautiful Tulum Beach, convenience stores which make exploring the area very easy. Overall, it was a relaxing and enjoyable stay. I would definitely return and recommend this hotel to anyone looking for comfort and a pleasant atmosphere.

Expedia and Otonomus Hotel in Tulum did not provide the vacation experience we were promised. The website’s presentation of the hotel is misleading at best. I booked my stay through Expedia based on the descriptions, amenities, and representations shown in the listing for Otonomus Hotel in Tulum. Unfortunately, the reality did not match what was advertised. The property, services, and/or amenities were not as described, and key details were either misrepresented or omitted. THERE WAS NO OCEAN/SEA VIEW FROM ANY OF THE ROOMS. The desk clerk finally admitted that there is no “REAL” sea view from any of the rooms. They failed to mention that they are literally in the jungle. They offer 1 towel per guest, and you are forced to purchase additional towels if needed. They expect you to launder your linens and empty the trash as well. This is completely unacceptable. The sink and shower backed up. Finally, it was noisy. We were next door to a construction site, and we were awakened daily to construction noise before 8am, and it continued well past 8 pm. I relied on the accuracy of the listing when making my reservation, and the experience fell significantly short of what was promised. As a major booking platform, Expedia has a responsibility to ensure that the properties it promotes are accurately represented. Allowing misleading information to remain on the site is unacceptable and negatively impacts customers who trust the platform when making travel decisions. NEVER AGAIN

Overall, I had a good stay. The hotel is clean, the staff are friendly and helpful, and the location is very convenient for getting around. The property feels well maintained and welcoming. The only downside was the noise. I stayed on the ground floor in a room that connects to the room next door, and the soundproofing was very limited. You can hear conversations and music clearly, even normal speaking volume, as if it’s happening in your own room. If you’re sensitive to noise, I would recommend requesting a room away from connecting doors or on a higher floor. Aside from that, it was a positive experience.

The place was clean only issues upon arrival the room was given away. No water on two occasions they fixed after we notified them. Not far from beach a short bike ride or scooter rental. Also the ocean view is lol. You can see it but barely. If you’re a smoker this is not the place for you. No elevator but stairs aren’t bad.

I had no hot water for showers or bathroom sink for the first few days I was there. When I said something to staff about it they said they were going to do something about it and it seemed to get a little better, but not really by much. Also the bed is very uncomfortable, the bedding is cheap and inadequate and the blinds are too small to actually cover the sliding glass doors, so the light comes in and you also have no privacy from whoever may be walking by. My friend had fixtures such as towel racks falling off the walls in his room. This place is also located in a no-mans land between the beach and town and while it is somewhat close to the beach, there is no pedestrian path to walk to the beach. I would NOT recommend staying here without a car. There is no food or drink besides a vending machine and absolutely nothing nearby. Stay on the beach if you can afford it, or in town if you can't.

Loved that this place was so spacious and beautiful! There wasn't too many front desk staff but the pool and lighting was great! I loved how the rooms came with washer/dryer, a full kitchen and a stove top. My friends and I got a pool on top of ours and it was beautiful!
