We had to wait quite a bit to check in, there was no one at the front desk. We were also told there was no breakfast until 8am, but others were in eating before that. Cleanliness no the best, bathroom floors were dirty. Very charming though, some other flaws that are to be expended with the age.

My family and I loved the Royal Valentia Hotel. The staff could not have been nicer and were so helpful during our stay. The hotel has been lovingly restored and the rooms were spacious and well appointed. The pub/restaurant attached to the hotel was one of our favorites on our trip. It had such a positive feel and to us was the quintessential of all good things Irish. Our stay at the Royal Valentia was absolutely perfect!

This is a charming property. Conveniently located, with a wonderful restaurant and views of the mainland and bay. Reservations are usually required at the restaurant; the food was good. Our room, on the first level, was oddly shaped and likely renovated from a previous life as a side entrance. It was awkward and the noise level from adjoining rooms was not pleasant. We listened to the next door guest snore all night

Was there two years ago and was excellent. This time service was very poor had to keep asking for our drinks, waiting along time for food to arrive. Room not very clean, broken toilet seat, toilet rolls no better than tissue paper. Windows didn’t close properly, general cleanliness of room not great. And noisy generator out side our room. On checking out ‘ no one asked how are stay was. I won’t be returning . Danny oflaherty

A good location but that's all.
Seemed a great location close to ferry . A nice view of the harbour but let down by the room . A small room with a tiny bathroom . It was a little dated and the furniture didn't fit its purpose- the mirror on the chest of drawers was too low to use with out bending down . The food in the restaurant was ok but nothing special.

Disappointing stay
I wouldn't class this as a hotel, more as a guesthouse. Check in was only available up until 9pm and on our booking it says if you arrive after 9pm, you'll have to find alternative adcomodation! Lucky we arrived in the middle of the day! There was no room service available to the room as "there wasn't enough staff on", however the food in the bar was very tasty. The rooms were basic and average enough. The double bed was very small and not a great mattress, so not a great sleep had, they could do with an upgrade of hotel standard mattresses. There was no bath in the room and the towels would barely fit on us, more like one you'd use to dry your hair, certainly not bath size! Also, there was 1 small tube of cheap hair/body wash per person. No lotion, conditioner etc. This was our 3rd "hotel" to stay at whilst doing the Ring of Kerry, but was the least appealing. Even if we paid €100 for it (and that was without breakfast), I'd expected a bit more, luckily it was only a stop off for 1 night. Disappointing!

The hotel had a lovely location, lovely views. The room was spotlessly clean. The staff were polite and very obliging. The meals were very good. There is nothing I would complain about. I would stay there again.

Would not recommend!
We were disappointed with the standard of cleaning - bathroom bin was not emptied from previous occupants!! There was no update in the room re what cleaning procedures undertaken re COVID - unsure re tv remote etc Breakfast was poor both from items unavailable and having to constantly request basic items such as cutlery, plates, milk etc( as did other tables) While there was a notice saying table service only there didn’t seem to be an issue when customers went to the bar. We were told it was an issue to set up a tab when ordering a pre dinner drink even though we had a table reserved for dinner a little later. Also we only saw one of the waiting staff wearing face covering!

Beautiful hotel in an amazingly gorgeous setting
The Royal Valentia is a beautiful hotel, rich in history. The service was fantastic, especially after finding I booked the day after I meant to, was told not to worry at all, and our reservation was changed with a smile. The food in the restaurant was delicious and the atmosphere cozy. The bed was a bit firm for our liking, but that seems to be the standard based on other places we have stayed around Ireland. Our room was above the restaurant and we could hear the live music. This is not at all a complaint. It was very good and we enjoyed it. I don't think it lasted past 10:30. Just keep this in mind when booking and ask for a room on the other side of the building if you think this will be a problem. We would love to go back in the spring/summer to explore the island, which is absolutely gorgeous and would definitely pick the Royal Valentia again!

We love this hotel. We’ve stayed three years in a row now and look forward to our next. Harbor views are fantastic. Walkable area. This visit we walked up to the graveyard at the top of the hill looking for ancestors. It was a good walk and the views fantastic. We usually visit in the off season so it’s very quiet. Sea view rooms are especially nice. Parking easy.
