Virginias Country Houses

A world of subterranean wonders, a milestone in geological discoveries, Luray caverns, is a wonderful weekend getaway for those who are living near DC or Virginia. It is around 2 hours (or more) drive from washington DC.
This is a picture of the "Dream Lake", a spring of water which has a mirror-like appearance. Stalactites are reflected in the water making them appear to be stalagmites. This gives an illusion that the lake is deeper. The lake is connected to a spring that continues deeper into the caverns.
All in all, it was my first time exploring caverns. It was a fun filled day, learning the stories of the cavern.

Tips:
1) It is very crowded on weekends and holidays. If you want to enjoy peaceful, slow paced, less crowded tour of the caverns, go on weekdays.
2) If you visit the caverns, look for these things-
Saracen's tent - scarves and shawls of translucent calcite, falling in graceful folds, fringed with a thousand patterns, and so thin that a candle light can reveal the structure within!
The fried eggs formation - yes, it looks like fried eggs ;)
The Great Stalacpipe Organ - An actual organ which plays music- sounds of Stalactites! DO NOT miss this one!

"Beautiful, modern building in the heart of town. Everything you could want is very close by. Clean, modern hotel lobby and you’re happily greeted by friendly, professional staff. Guest rooms are modern, squeaky clean, with comfortable beds. They offer so many great things with your stay it’s like Christmas! This is my second stay in a month and I will definitely stay here when I’m in the area. Referred my brother and his wife who stayed a few nights ago. They loved it, too. Please treat yourself to this great hotel, you will not be disappointed! Enjoy your stay!"

"The staff was very nice, the room was spacious and clean. The room wasn't ready when I arrived but the woman who checked me in was gracious enough to upgrade the room as a courtesy for patiently waiting. The lobby and bar was nice as well. Location was perfect. Would definitely stay there again. "

"The room was awesome, i loved listening to the waves crashing on the shore from the storm. Breakfast in the morning, parking on the same floor. room pretty quiet, all modern and updated. The door was a little hard to open to the balcony and if I had to complain I would complain that the fan in the bathroom didn't shut off. But seriously loved staying here. It was comfy and being away from home is hard. I enjoyed the desk area, and the nice surprise of having a fridge. Would have been nice if it had a freezer area too. I tried really hard not to make my room door slam to be considerate of others. The staff was helpful as I came in and had to change my room because I didn't want to be across from the elevators. "
