The first written mention of the castle dates back to the 11th century. Until the 14th century, the castle belonged to the Czech crown, was made in the Gothic style and guarded the southern borders of the Czech kingdom. In 1323, the castle passed into private ownership. Over the course of its history, it has changed several owners. It acquired its modern baroque appearance in the 17th century after a strong fire in 1655. Mentioning the castle of Vranov nad Diyi in the annals begins in 1100, but it was built much earlier, like a royal castle that guarded the border with Austria. All buildings in it were built in the Gothic style. In 1323, the castle was transferred by King Jan of Luxembourg to pan Jindřich from Lipe. In 1614, it was bought by Wolf Dietrich of the Altans clan. In 1665 there was a big fire in the castle. After the fire, it underwent reconstruction and acquired its modern appearance in the Baroque style. One of the most attractive places in the castle is the Ancestral Hall.

The water reservoir of Vranov (also the Vranov Dam) was built on the river Dyje river near the town of Vranov nad Dyjí in the years 1930-1933. the dam is 60 m high and in length 292 m resulting from the dam is about 30 km long and extends below the Bítov Castle in the Valley Želetavky. By area is the tenth largest in the Czech Republic. The dam is used in addition to the energy and water supply tasks for recreation. Recreation centers are concentrated in the area of Vranov nad Dyjí, Bítov and Podhradí nad Dyjí. The different Camping sites Are Vranov and Bitov, Vranov Plaz is more suitable for Teeners & Adults because of the Discotheque and many Bars, Bistro's internet cafe, Hotel facilities like massage, sport equipment and restaurants. http://www.vranovska-plaz.cz/en/ Camp Bitov suitable for Families with little children, swimming pools with playgrounds around. http://www.camp-bitov.cz/ However both Camping sites are low budget and reachable by ferry boat who are scheduled every our and also the three Castles at the lake as the villages. http://www.lodnidopravavranov.cz/

Wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt. Wir waren 11 Personen und zwei Hunde. Empfang war sehr freundlich und auch der Abschied ging Reibungslos und sehr großzügig von statten. Die Umgebung ist sehr ruhig und ländlich. Ideal zum Wandern, ausruhen und Rad fahren. Aber mit dem Auto kann man gut sehenswertes ...
