Whale's Tail - 3BR Beachfront Home in Magical Puako! Steps to the ocean!

"The best asset this house has is an amazing beach front view with a nearly private beach on a magnificent setting inside the coral reef. A rare find on the island. The home itself was very clean and well stocked with bathroom and kitchen supplies. A nice platter of snacks greeted us upon arrival. Beds and bedding were comfortable.Although the location is beautiful, unfortunately we could only give this house a good rating due to the dated decor and deferred maintenance/condition of the interior, furnishings and septic system. The entry was overgrown with palm fronds which scratched my nose while ducking though them. First impression is the worn-out furniture in the living room with arm panels hiding ripped upholstery. The broken handle on the screen sliding door led to the upper lanai with torn rattan chairs around a table that was too wide for the area making it difficult to squeeze in. Lower lanai tiles were loose, cracked and broken. Although a note was left indicating a bathroom tub/shower was to be remodeled, it was very uncomfortable and possibly unhealthy to shower with a sheet of plastic covering a tile wall with severe mold in the tile gout. This home is not well maintained which was very disappointing for such a great location and high rental rate.Periodically, the house and grounds would be permeated by sewage smell. As we later discovered, the Puako neighborhood is known for untreated sewage entering the shoreline prompting swim warnings due to high bacteria."

"The setting of this beautiful home couldn’t be better: a gorgeous beach, perfect sunsets and sparkly night skies with shooting stars. The house is so comfortable with separate and private bedroom suites, a great kitchen, dining and living areas. Just perfect. The kitchen cabinets and drawers, and the laundry area were so precisely labeled and well stocked with every last thing you needed or would have wanted. We were all so grateful to have found this beautiful and comfortable home for our Big Island vacation."

"The unit is very clean close to the beach partial views from the back patio area does come with a gas grill. AC was useful bedrooms are very spacious. Our host. J and Marla were exceptional in communicating feedback or answering our questions prior to arrival. We hope to rent this unit in 2027 for our annual Family fishing trip."

"Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was very happy with the location. I was very satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We booked this for 6 adults and 3 children. It was awesome! We loved being so close to the beach that we could swim in the pool then head to the beach and vice versa. The house itself was gorgeous. The airway living spaces takes some getting used to on the hotter months, but it was really cool and we totally could enjoy outdoor/indoor living. The staff was incredibly kind and the house was totally set up especially for babies/young kids. We had an awesome week wouldn’t change a thing!"

"The location is amazing. A quiet neighborhood with a sandy beach, sunset views, tide pools, coral and lava reefs, artistic driftwood, and shade trees. The house has good bones and everything you need for a relaxing and convenient stay. It felt like a home away from home. The grounds are immaculate, colorful, and welcoming to wildlife.2 Papaya's went above and beyond to facilitate our family needs (Thank you Mary!!)."
