So much character! Loved that. Being on the third floor, with no elevator and narrow stairs is not the Inns fault, however, I did miss having one when carrying my luggage. They did offer but then, that’s just making someone else go through it. But, WOW, am I out of shape! It was strange finding that every window in the room was unlocked and the room was right off the fire escape. And, these were large windows that opened wide. I locked all the windows and I felt completely fine in the room after. The concern was when I mentioned this to the front desk person and they acted like they didn’t understand why I would find this concerning. Which is why I’m mentioning it here. Their lack of awareness is not enough to not stay here because the charm of the Inn is worth it. I probably won’t do it again though because I’d be afraid I’d end up on the forth floor and I really do like having an elevator!

This is an grossly overpriced destination in a great location of the city. No central air and drinks at the restaurant here cater to think tank VIPs and the aloof foreign diplomatic corps.

Don’t get me wrong.., I loved the Tabard Inn. But I acknowledge it’s not for everyone. I liked the eccentricities, the coziness, the charm. Having studied Chaucer I relished in the references to his pilgrims. The military history connections were fascinating. And the staff … the most hospitable anywhere. The restaurant was on par with any we had experienced in DC, including The Palm. And the coffee was the best anywhere. Sure we had to get used to the memory foam mattresses. But this was easily offset by all the extras that made our trip to DC so memorable.

I absolutely loved the eclectic art throughout the property. Every corner feels thoughtfully curated, making it as much an experience as it is a place to stay. It’s warm, inviting, and refreshingly different from typical hotels. It’s important to note—this is not your standard modern hotel. There’s no central air or heat, and no elevator, but honestly, that’s part of the charm. If you appreciate unique, historic spaces, you’ll find it adds to the authenticity rather than detracts from it. And the bulldogs? An unexpected and delightful touch that made the stay even more memorable. The breakfast is simply amazing—fresh, delicious, and the perfect way to start your day in DC. If you’re looking for something unique, cozy, and full of personality, the Tabard Inn is an absolute treat.

Stayed here for one night and thought this was a unique place to stay. It is full of interesting art and antiques. There are many sections of the restaurant which are all different and worth sering. The food is really great and service is too. The room we had was very comfortable especially the bed. This is a place that does not have elevators, television or multiple electrical outlets for devices. It is a place you don't need these things. It is meant to be a getaway and place to be comfortable with friends and loved ones. Explore the area. There is plenty to do.
