Roe Summer Cottage, Suite B

Summary:

3 Bedroom, 2 Bath in Remodeled Victorian. Come visit the Roe Summer Cottage! In the 1800's Roe Cottage functioned as a summer boarding house. It fell into disrepair in later years, but we have brought it back to life with a complete renovation. Suite B encompasses the entire 2nd floor of the building and sleeps 8 in 3 bedrooms. Easy check in with code for entry supplied prior to your arrival.



Your second floor entrance leads into an open concept kitchen and living area. The kitchen is stocked with basic dishes, glassware, silverware and cookware. The living area has comfy seating, a flat screen TV with large cable channel selection. There is a second TV in another bedroom. The dining area has a large table with seating for 8.



Beds are all made with fresh linens for your arrival. The two full bathrooms are stocked with clean towels and washcloths.



There is a private driveway with parking for 4 cars all on a quiet street in downtown Watkins Glen. Roe Summer Cottage is a short walk away from Seneca Lake, Watkins Glen State Park and Franklin Street, Watkins Glen's main thoroughfare.

Watkins Glen is a vibrant town with something to offer everyone. Roe Summer Cottage is a short walk from the town's main street, Watkins Glen State Park, Seneca Lake and the Village Marina. Walk the main street and visit the town's wide variety of shops and restaurants, or make the short drive to Watkins Glen International Speedway or the numerous wineries.

The place was an ideal spot, close to the falls. Our suite was newly renovated and clean. The internet/wifi speed was so slow we could not watch tv at all. The outside structure and steps to enter need attention. We could tell it is a work in progress so hopefully the owner will continue the renovations on the rest of the outside.

The location is great -- wonderful coffee shop across the street. This rental is very basic. Our group would make the following recommendations: Needs lamps in living room and bedrooms. Linens are thin; pilled and too small for the mattress. Need mattress pads on the beds. Towels are the thinnest we have ever seen. Bed pillows need replacing -- too thin and hard, had to stack pillows to get comfortable. The front steps to the front porch has no handrail which is a problem for people with mobility issues.

Yes, this rental is as pictured. What you cannot see is how incredibly dirty it is (inside and out) and how unsanitary it smells. I have absolutely no idea how previous renters could note this property for its cleanliness, and honestly question the legitimacy of some of these reviews. The exterior of the building desperately needs to be painted and it also appears structurally unsound (the posts holding up the porch are barely intact and the floors are noticeably sloped). Upon entering, we saw that the carpets were filthy and we were met with a strong, sour smell as if a dirty mop had been used throughout the unit. I messaged Courtney, the property manager, and asked that a cleaning crew be sent back out the next morning. While she was responsive, upon returning later that day it was no cleaner and the sour smell had not improved. This rental needs MAJOR work. The carpets are so dirty they need to be ripped up. The entire unit needs a VERY deep clean, it desperately needs new throw pillows and bedding. The comforters on the beds are like something you might find in a seedy motel and felt completely unsanitary. There were no mattress pads and the mattresses had horrible stains on them. We were desperate to find somewhere else to stay, but nothing else was available anywhere in town. I am absolutely baffled by the positive reviews. The property is close to town so everything is walkable, but unfortunately, that is truly the only positive thing I can say about this rental.

Great Location

We had a nice 2 night mid-week stay. The location was perfect - right outside Watkins Glen State Park and still an easy walk to the restaurants and shops on the way to the lake. No complaints about the place, it was nice to have 2 full bathrooms.

You can't ask for a better spot in Watkins Glen. So close to Watkins Glen State Park and the downtown area of Seneca Lake. We used our car once the whole trip and were able to walk everywhere else. We had a group of 5 women. The unit was clean, comfortable, and safe. We will plan to stay here again!

Overall, a great place to stay in Watkins Glen. We loved the location with its close proximity to walk to the harbor, restaurants and state park. Communication with the host was great, no issues. Very basic in its appointments, but very easy and convenient. I am a little spoiled, so I would have appreciated AC in the bedrooms, but I survived nicely with the windows open June.Also a washer and dryer would be nice for those in town racing for and extended period of time.

Family spring break hiking trip

Overall a very convenient rental location. So close to Watkins Glen since it was only 2 blocks away. Close to the grocery store (Tops), a yummy BBQ place (Nick's), and a great ice cream bar (Glen's Dairy Bar). Very helpful to have a kitchen to cook meals throughout our stay. Appreciated the space and cleanliness of the 2 bathrooms. Had more than enough towels for our family. Great having room darkening shades in the windows too. Must stops relatively nearby are Corning Glass Museum, Watkins Glen, and Letchworth State Park. Just be aware some of the trails are closed for maintenance during the winter/early spring..

First time in Watkins Glen

First impressions: roomy, clean, neat and excellent location! Was especially fond of the coffee shop across the street. The apartment is bare bones so take note of the amenities and stop at the store on your way for coffee, tea, soap or shampoo. There were a few maintenance issues but the host was quick to respond. Overall, you can’t find a better location. Great trip!

This property is in a great location to easily walk to the marina, the park, restaurants, etc. Lovely town, beautiful area, nice main street attractions, and friendly people. Property was clean and had all necessities. Property management was very responsive.
