We The Curious

Bristol
Meet a science expert, carry out a DNA extraction and make a TV show the hands-on activities at this science center will keep children entertained for hours.

Spend a fun day out with the kids at We The Curious, a hands-on science center. Together you can learn about animation, marvel at a real human brain, watch a show in the planetarium and perhaps meet an expert, such as an engineer or neuroscientist.

Some of the exhibitions at We The Curious are temporary but most are permanent. Our World teaches you how the world naturally recycles. Kids can present the weather, and trigger a miniature volcano. Build It! is a construction site for under-8s, while All About Us helps you learn about your own body. View your own veins, watch yourself in slow motion and study a real human brain.

One of the center's most popular attractions is Animate It! This area invites children to make their own animated short films. The display is in collaboration with local company Aardman, the team behind Academy Award-winning animation Wallace and Gromit. Other popular attractions include a cloud chamber and giant soap bubbles.

We The Curious is also home to the city’s only planetarium. Climb inside the huge mirror ball to watch a range of stellar shows. There are different screenings for various age groups check ahead to see when those suitable for your children are playing. A small additional fee is charged for each planetarium screening.

Generally, We The Curious is for parents of children aged up to early teens. However, the center does host special adult-only evenings, where visitors can enjoy a drink at the bar, explore We The Curious, and get involved in special activities. Dates for these evenings are available on the website.

We The Curious is open daily, except public holidays. It’s located on Anchor Road, close to Bristol Harbour. From the main train station, Bristol Temple Meads, it’s about 5 minutes by taxi, 10 minutes by bus, or a 20-minute walk. Use the train and get a two-for-one discount on admission to We The Curious. Check the Great Western Railway website for more information. If you come by bike, there are racks outside We The Curious.
