The check in and check out process is a bit weird if you are not used to it but once you learn that after and before a certain time the front desk is not staffed and the keys are in a key box, it’s totally fine. The hotel itself is lovely and super central. Totally recommend

There was but one small chair in the room; no table, desk, or other place to eat; no place for clothing other than a portable rack (with just 3 hangers); very tight sleeping quarters (even tho’ it had only a double bed); no bedside stands, other than a couple of very short truncated tree sections; and no place to lay suitcases w/o obstructing the fridge; and one had to go into the hallway to access coffee and tea station. Also it was very noisy until wee hours of the morning and the view was terrible. It was nicely decorated and did have separate water closet and shower rooms, and staff were very polite, friendly, and helpful, but that was insufficient to overcome the problems that prompted this rating.

I would recommend this property to anyone coming to Wellington! The location cannot be beat! The snacks in the room are such a nice touch! The rooms are incredibly spacious! Love having a separate shower and toilet! Easy to use entertainment! The bar at the hotel is great! The sparkling or flat water is such a small but appreciated detail on every floor! We were on the second floor and were honoured to see Viago daily. So many great dining, shopping or cultural options within walking distance! If we find ourselves back in Wellington we will be back! Thank you for the amazing stay!

Ideal Spot for Exploring Cuba St

The Intrepid Hotel in Wellington was a great base — right next to Cuba Street, so perfect for trying out different food and drink spots. The rooms were stylish and comfortable, and it had a nice laid-back feel that suited the area well.

Amazing Staycation Destination

Amazing location just off the main part of Cuba St. The room was great and the beds were amazingly comfortable. Puffin Bar downstairs was also great; super cool vibe and great service. Absolutely amazing staycation destination.

Loved the hotel and location, unfortunately we didn't get much sleep our entire 3 night stay. I realise the hotel is city centre but being kept awake by loud music until 3am is not ideal. We finally got to sleep only to be woken by rubbish/delivery trucks early in the morning. The listing on Expedia said the rooms were soundproofed, surely a hotel on a busy street should have double glazing on the windows to allow guests a decent nights sleep.

If Wellington had a spirit animal, The Intrepid would be it: stylish, a little eccentric, and with a bar that could make you cancel your dinner plans. The Puffin is not just a hotel bar; it’s a destination. Think low-lit sophistication with cocktails so good they will keep you coming back for more. And more. And more. There was a slight hiccup with my room, but the staff handled it so swiftly and charmingly that I half suspect they rehearse these moments for sport. The result? An upgrade, which is always the kind of apology I can get behind. The location? Perfect. You can practically roll out the front door and land in one of Cuba Street’s many bars or restaurants (though you may find yourself lured back by The Puffin’s gravitational pull). If I’m being picky, the carpets look like they’ve seen better days—but that’s a minor quibble in an otherwise stellar experience. Would I recommend it? Absolutely. Book a stay, sip something decadent at The Puffin, and remind yourself why Wellington does boutique better than anyone else.
