Independent Yosemite National Park hotels

"Poor neglected Ahwahnee. Poor morose staff. Poor guests seeking decent service & decent food yet finding themselves with a hefty fee for faded grandeur. Seems National Parks have been pinched to the penny by crony contractors. "

"This is a very good option for visiting Yosemite. You have direct access to all the sites you would want to visit during your stay. By staying in the park, you can get to all the sites before the day-use tourists get in the park, then the park gets super busy. There are decent dining options. There is a small grocery/gift shop, which is decent as well. But be prepared. This is one step up from being at a campsite. Bring your own snacks, for sure (but you must store them properly due to the wildlife). If you are visiting in any part of the cold season, bring your own sleeping system (sleeping bag +). I stayed in a "non-heated" tent, and it was very cold out. The "blanket" provided was totally inadequate to keep a person warm through the night. If I had to describe the blanket, I would say that it's like two pieces of nylon sheet sewn together. They are slick as well. It would not stay covering my body during the night, and it ended up on the floor. The restrooms and showers were adequate, but stay busy all the time. All that being said, I would highly recommend the location for CAMPERS who want to stay in the park but just want a step up from their own tent, or who cannot get a campsite reservation (they book up quickly). In fact, one would be better off with a purchased tent, as most are designed to keep body heat in and the cold air out. Either that or reserve a "heated" tent. But I cannot speak to these, because I didn't use one. "

"My son and I absolutely enjoyed our stay at this cabin. I booked this trip very last minute and the host was able to accommodate. I read the great reviews and it didn’t disappoint. The cabin was very cozy and being able to see and hear the river flowing directly behind the cabin was so peaceful, exactly what I was looking for. The bed was so comfortable, we slept very well and the host was very nice, offered very helpful information and was easy to contact. There is a market just a short walk/drive up the road that was pretty well stocked with items needed that I forgot to get at the grocery store on the way up there so that was pretty convenient. We did have to change the dates due to a power outage caused by a recent snow storm but that actually worked out in our favor bc had we went the original dates I had booked, we would not have had the opportunity to experience seeing the FireFall at El Capitan bc it was not visible during the days I had originally planned on going so my son and I were very happy about that. 10/10 highly recommended and will definitely book again. I hope I can come back in the summer "

"We visited during a winter storm. The place is cozy and has great view of the winter wonderland outside. Host was really kind to offer us extra night of stay, if the road closure impacts our departure date."

"The house was far from luxurious. The heat didn’t work and the central heating didn’t get up to 70 until the next morning. No toiletrie amenities at!!! A lot of things broken or not working. The only thing I’m great full for is that my wife didn’t go with us because she would have hated this place. The electric didn’t work in any of the rooms. And WiFi was spotty. If you can find a different place I HIGHLY recommend you don’t stay HERE. As side from that if you don’t want to drive fat after visiting Yosemite and this is the last place available then you know why. Good luck. "
