9.2/10 Wonderful! (20 reviews)
Very spacious, property is managed remotely. Facilities good with notes:
1) There are both indoor and outdoor onsen. For the uninitiated, Onsen are Japanese natural hot springs, the water comes up from the earth hotter than the tap water and is both clean and free! The pipe down to the earth spring source is quite long, and thus there will be a lot of cooled water and cold pipe between the source and the house. Therefore when turning the Onsen taps on (these are very obviously oversized taps with red handles) you may need to flush out more water than normal - perhaps running it at full blast (with the plug removed) for 15-20 minutes while you bring the hot water up to the surface and heat the pipework. Don’t feel ‘bad’ about doing this - remember, in Japan, the hot onsen water is the free one and it’s the ‘cold’ tap that costs money!
2) You can use a normal boiler-powered shower which is next to the onsen and this, and any silver colored basin taps will heat up this way which is much quicker though less ‘natural’. The shower room in the rear property is at the back accessed via the kitchen/lounge.
3) there is a pre registration process you can follow in English (from a link in a message sent in Japanese - just go to the link)
4) the process of getting keys is a little technical but remember both lock box codes - particularly the four digit one for the smaller box
5) area is full of obvious ‘soaplands’ - you may want to check what these are eg if planning a family trip
