Dance flamenco, sip sherry wine and ride horses in this traditional city with quaint plazas, cobbled lanes and enlightening museums.

A Moorish garden and castle complex is the highlight in the historic city of Jerez de la Frontera. The community has a diverse culture and is known internationally for its sherry wine, quaint historic centre and artistic flair. Appreciate the local ambiance with strolls through its parks and gardens and visits to its churches and plazas.

Enjoy the sunny summer weather with a trip to the magnificent Alcázar Gardens. Stroll along the paths of this landscaped park, visit the Moorish castle and glance at the colourful floral displays and trimmed hedges. The garden contains historic walls, towers and the last remaining of the city’s original mosques.

Among the outdoor gems is Arenal Square, a spacious plaza with an equestrian statue and fountain. Sit with a picnic here on a warm spring or autumn day and gaze at the pretty mosaic patterns on the pavement.

Walk west for 5 minutes to reach the Jerez Cathedral, known for its diverse range of architectural styles. Over the years, it has accumulated and blended the designs and features typical of gothic, baroque and neoclassical buildings.

The city has a long relationship with horses, which is showcased by the Royal Andalusian School of Equestrian Art and its Equestrian Art Museum. Observe the town’s modern-day transportation equivalent at the Circuito de Velocidad de Jerez, which hosts car and motorcycle racing.

Learn about the local grape variant at Bodegas Fundador Pedro Domecq, Bodegas Emilio Lustau and González Byass and Bodegas Tío Pepe. Taste the brandy and sherry of international renown that is made here.

Jerez is located near the border with Portugal in the region of Andalusia in southwestern Spain. Jerez Airport serves many international destinations. Get around the historic town centre on foot to appreciate the quaint alleys and plazas. Rent bicycles to see the countryside. Visit in spring for the Flamenco Festival of Jerez.

With its eclectic culture and rich history, Jerez de la Frontera is the engine that drives the province of Cádiz.

Very nice
"Very nice and comfortable but there was no hair conditioner- and the air only works with the key- and there were duvets which I requested- they were really nice and brought us some the next morning. Staff was very attentive- and got us a taxi early for our train. I enjoyed the stay."

Went during the Flamenco Festival. Jerez is historic, atmospheric and beautiful. A good city to explore on foot. Plenty of good bars and restaurants. Convenient too for a trip to Cadiz or a day out in Gibraltar.
