Beautiful scenery and city escape

Our family with 2 parents and 3 adult kids really enjoyed our stay. The property manager was very helpful and responsive. Clean place and there was a dishwasher which we realised during our trip was a luxury. The neighbours did have some parties which we could hear but we were there at new years. Maybe other times are quieter.

Good home base

Jaw dropping views, lovely open concept house with a few things to do around the area. Pretty far from La Fortuna to day trip, but doable day trips to west coast beaches.

Fantastic setting

The house was fantastic. we enjoyed the infinity pool and the wide assortment of colorful birds as neighbors. I would recommend this house for anyone who wants to kick back and relax with easy access to restaurants , groceries, bakeries,and the best pizza to end a long day with.

If you are thinking about renting this house, get off the fence, go, you won't be disappointed. The owners delivered everything they promised and more. Our stay there could not have been better. Atenas is a wonderful place, taxi's are plentiful and the drivers are courteous, honest and helpful.

Beyond our expectations!

From the get go Sam and Roxanne were a pleasure to work with on our first visit to Costa Rica! We are so grateful for the thoroughness and professionalism extended to us! The house is simply gorgeous! So much so that it was hard to leave every day to explore all that Costa Rica has to offer! The design of the house was warm and welcoming and all details well thought out! We enjoyed morning coffee poolside watching birds and butterflies feed on the bananas and the numerous iguana sunning on the roof or driveway. We took advantage of the view offered on top of the guest house each evening to star gaze and enjoy the twinkling lights of outlying towns. The central location of the house made our chosen attractions easy to reach. Sam recommended that we utilize the cell phone and GPS he has available and we are certainly glad we did as most of the roads are unmarked. We ventured to the Monteverde Cloud Forest, Poas Volcano and Jaco. We are already making plans for our return and while what we will do this next trip is up in the air, our choice to stay at the Luxury Castle is a definite!

Incredible Vacation

Our vacation at the luxury castle was amazing. From the moment we landed at the airport our driver, recommended to us by Sam and Roxie, was waiting for us. The short 30 minute drive to Atenas was filled with wonderful views of Costa Rica. Upon arriving at the house we were greeted warmly by Sam and Roxie. From the moment you walk in and see the view you realize the property is more incredible than the pictures portray. The home was better than advertised. It was clean and well maintained. The security features were a plus and very easy to use. The washer and dryer were a huge asset during the week. We had 4 adults staying at the property and there was plenty of room to lounge inside and outside. All of the appliances were clean and made it very easy to prepare meals during the week. Sam and Roxie were excellent resources to us during our stay. They provided a book with a lot of helpful information on Atenas and nearby attractions. They live in a guesthouse on the property and are always around if you need them but you never see them during the week which was a huge plus. Sam and Roxie know everything there is to know about Atenas and Costa Rica. They recommended an excellent driver for us during our stay and a host of good restaurants to try in Atenas. Atenas is a wonderful town. It is an easy 25 minute walk into the heart of the town with plenty of beautiful views of volcanos and countryside. I wouldn't recommend walking back to the house as it is mostly uphill. A cab ride is only $3-$4. The town is incredibly safe and filled with very friendly Ticos. You can walk around freely to different restaurants and stores. The grocery store has everything you need to make meals at home. Everything in Atenas is great like the food, the locals, and the scenery. However, the best part about your stay will be the luxury castle. I highly recommend the luxury castle to anyone going on vacation. The house exceeds any expectations you could possibly have and will be the best vacation decision you ever make!

Great stay in Costa Rica

We had a great time here. The property manager, Eunice, did a great job with helping us before we even got there, recommending drivers, massage therapists, and chefs. This property is about a half hour to 45 minutes away from the San Jose Airport. Eunice met us there to give us a tour and the keys. The view from the backyard is beautiful. Very comfortable beds, sizeable kitchen and bathrooms, etc. There is no ac in the home, but there are 3 fans on the property, and it also doesn't get overly hot as far as temperature, so you should be okay without AC. Be sure to bring bug spray as well. We definitely recommend this property.

50th Birthday Celebration week

We had an amazing time while staying at the house. We had everything we needed for a week of family, fun & relaxation. Pool, property and surrounding area was amazing. The birds woke me up daily and I watched them and cows in the distance while I had my morning coffee. It was perfect.

Near Perfect

First off, the description and the photos listed with the property are accurate. The view is stunning and the house is both attractive and comfortable. Though it sleeps six, it felt to be the perfect size for just my wife and I. You can't go wrong with this rental for a Costa Rican adventure or romantic getaway (or both). Our only negatives (and hence the 4* rating), we're due to two issues. First was the hot tub in the master bedroom. My wife specifically picked this unit because of this (she's a soaker). It did not function properly the entire time of our stay. We contacted the property manager (who was otherwise fantastic) and she said she would send a handyman. Didn't happen. Consequently my wife was quite disappointed. The other issue was largely out of the owner's control. The house is a fair bit up a mountain just outside of Atenas in a nice upscale neighborhood. It is easy to access from the city. And it has spectacular views from the back AND from in front of the house. Due to these views from the front and its remoteness from the city, right in front of the unit has become a popular hangout for local young people to play their music, drink, socialize and do whatever. There is a gate preventing them from entering the property, but they can be loud and sometimes rude. It can be disconcerting coming home at night and finding a string of cars parked in front of your residence, all with their lights on, and at times blocking access to the property. We had the property manager call the police on Saturday night because she even stated it had become unreasonable. Though I elaborated on the negatives, don't let it take away from the overwhelming positives. The comfort, style and ambiance of the property is top notch. The reason it was only near perfect is due to those two specific issues which should be addressed.

First nights in Costa Rica

Everything was as described on the VRBO site. Atenas charming. Oscar the driver very helpful. We didn’t allow the leaky ice maker to dampen our stay. More rain in 2 days than our home in CA gets in a year. After staying at a few other VRBOs in CR, we appreciate the little touches like having salt , pepper and sugar available in the kitchen. Recommended Tim

Simply amazing!!!

This property is amazing the pictures don’t do it justice. The breathtaking views are even more beautiful from the infinity edge pool. The home is truly a castle in the sky. The wifi was very strong in every section of the home. Eunice the property manager is great and very accessible. This was a great way to end our trip immersed in the Pura Vida this home provides. Everything the description says is true!!

Wish we had been able to stay in this home longer. We spent a week in Costa Rica and visited several areas and stayed in 3 different properties during our visit. We fell in love with this sweet little town and can’t wait to come back! We will definitely contact Sam to stay here again on our next visit to CR. They thought of everything in this house. I managed to get a terrible blister on one of our hikes and even found a bandaid in the bathroom for it. So grateful that they thought of the little things, too! We even had an iguana friend that kept visiting and we could hear him on the roof several times! Must visit Finca Pizzeria and Kay’s while you are here!!

Great location, beautiful home

Sam was a nice guy. House was beautiful. Pool was great. My concern was around the cleanliness of the place. There was a lot of spider webs, stained sheets, and parts of the place that could have used a good scrubbing. It took away from the overall experience as cleanliness is a big deal for me.
