Compared to the chain hotels, this place is more of an old-style inn. The building feels old, but the facilities are well maintained and the room is clean. The in-house made breakfast as many other comments mentioned is indeed a feature of the hotel and a must-try. The location of the hotel is about 5-10 min walk from the downtown Bar Harbor. Parking in Bar Harbor is a nightmare, so if you plan to spend some time exploring downtown Bar Harbor, this is the right place to stay.

We had an enjoyable time in Bar Harbor, and liked the Elmhurst Inn enough to recommend it to other travelers. The Inn needs a little update, such as the living room furniture as well as some other furniture pieces. It could use some paint as well (or maybe install Trex decking?). We stayed in the Frenchman Bay Room, which was spacious and comfortable; however, there was an empty, white wooden cabinet/dresser inside the bathroom with two doors that kept opening up due to not having a lock. So, I hanged a towel from both door knobs to keep it closed during our stay. An easy fix: install a small rustic exterior lock or tie the doors close with a ribbon. The morning breakfast was very nice with two hot options each day as well as home-baked banana or pumpkin bread, which were absolutely delicious. The Inn manager, Cheryl, is very kind, helpful and delightful!
