Spacious, Ski-In/Ski-Out Vacation Home for Large Groups

Matterhorn is a stunning, spacious vacation home that’s perfect for large groups or multiple families. The home offers 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms on the main level, along with 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms on the upper level.

Our office is right here in the Powderhorn area with on-site maintenance, housekeeping, and reservation staff ready to help. You’ll always have support nearby, and if you’d rather not stop in, we’re also available 24/7 by call, message, or email. Whatever works best for you, we’re here to make your stay as smooth and stress-free as possible.

Nestled in the heart of the Upper Peninsula, the Powderhorn area is a true four-season destination.
The neighborhood also offers great local spots to enjoy—grab a hearty meal at Iron Nugget, sip a coffee at Copper Cup, try out a beer at old Iron Brewery or try a local favorite at Pit Stop, Uptown Café, or Club 28. You’ll also find shopping, live music, and seasonal festivals nearby that bring the community to life.

We are conveniently located just off US-2 and only a few miles from Ironwood Airport, which offers daily flights through Denver Air. Whether you’re arriving by car or by air, our location makes getting here easy and stress-free, putting you close to all the area has to offer.

The main level features an open-concept kitchen, dining area, and living room. The living room is designed for relaxation, with a cozy leather sectional, a sunken seating area around a large gas fireplace, and soaring high ceilings. Patio doors from the dining area lead out to a slope-side deck with a gas grill, where you can enjoy meals and take in the mountain views. Large windows throughout the space bring in plenty of natural light, brightening the entire home.

Additional features include a 4-person whirlpool, a sauna, and a spacious heated entry/boot room, perfect for warming up after a day on the slopes. Wi-Fi is available throughout the home for your convenience, with access to a Smart TV with over 25 channels and streaming services.

Matterhorn is located along the Shotgun Trail, offering easy access to Lifts #8 and #9, making it a perfect base for skiing and snowboarding. Cable TV is also provided for your entertainment.

A lovely get-away

My adult children, their partners, and I all enjoyed our stay. Easy access to numerous hiking trails and we spent one day at the Apostle Islands. All the amenities were as described and house was really fabulous.

Perfect balance

We really enjoyed our stay! The one feedback I have is that if you ask to download an app for our stay include any door codes on the app. The door code came in an email which if I hadn't loaded the app I would of checked right away. Our family had a lovely time at this property and enjoyed the quite area and well planned floor plan.

We had 7 kids and 9 adults and we all fit perfectly. Lovely location for waterfalls and Lake Superior. Home was VERY well stocked with slow cookers, electric griddle, cookie sheets, and more. No complaints.

We had a great time. The only hiccup was that the run and lift the lodge was located on wasn’t open when we were there. It was remedied by a quick 3 minute drive.

Not Ski In Ski Out

Big Powderhorn is not opening Chair Lifts 8 and 9 and has the Shotgun, Crazy Trail Oxbow and all runs supported by Chair Lifts 8 and 9 closed. The side of the ski ara that supports Ski In and Ski Out is closed so you are basically at an off site / off resort cabin in the woods. We spoke to Big Powderhorn and it sounds like they don't open this side of the resort in recent years and it sounds like cost cutting / operating cost savings. I feel we deserve some money back as the Ski In and Ski Out is not factual and has not been for some time.

Very enjoyable

It was a very enjoyable stay mostly. The only real issue we had is we couldn't figure out how to turn on the air so it got kinda toasty at times. Also there was no gas for the grill. Other than that was a very nice stay. But it could use some maintenance on the house. The house was pretty well clean. But could really use some extra deep cleaning in parts of the house

Great stay but no A/C

We all enjoyed the stay we had in this property. The rooms were nice. Facilities were good. However, the biggest drawback was that this house did not have air conditioning. It was so hot in the middle of the summer and mot of the occupants of the upper floor bedrooms could not sleep even after opening the windows. It looked like this house was not equipped with air conditioning at all. The front door opening was also a problem. It did not open even after we entered the security code. Then we had to call the property maintenance person and he informed us to rotate the lock handle upwards and then it opened. Please mention it to the next guests. Apart from the above mentioned two things, it was a pleasant stay.

Upper peninsula get away

The family arrived and the house was easy to enter and all was ready for us. There were no surprises about the interior of the house as it was clean and met her expectations. The kitchen was well stocked and clean. All bedrooms were as described in the TV and fireplace sitting areas worked well. There was a fire pit in the backyard which was nice considering the high temperature was about 64 during the week. One complaint that we had was at the grill was completely not functional due to rust and the propane tank was empty. The house was Located close to a Walmart as well as local grocery store. Both the Black River as well as Presque Isle rivers were also very close and provide an excellent diversion for us with multiple waterfalls as well as Lake superior. We would definitely stay at the house again.

Lovely chalet

We had a lovely time staying at this property. There were 16 of us altogether, ages ranging from 3 to 60+. It was wonderful that each bedroom had it’s own bathroom, and there was plenty of room for everyone to spread out and play, read, or play games. The only problem we had was that the key access was listed at noon, and we mistakenly thought that was the time we could access the cabin. This caused a little mixup with the cleaning person, which we regretted. Other than that, everything was lovely...in good repair and very clean. Would love to stay here again sometime… Thanks for making us welcome and helping us have a great family vacation.
