I feel like I had heard of this church, but didnt really understand the significance of what happened there until I visited. The Birmingham Civil Rights Institute right next door is a really well done history of racism and civil rights in the US. I'd definitely recommend if you are in Birmingham for a while.
Several powerful sculptures were commissioned for the park to illustrate the Civil Rights Movement events that happened here. Police and Dog Attack - a sculpture at ground level that is made up of two opposing metal walls with three vicious dogs that lunge at you as you pass between them the way the dogs did at the 1963 demonstration. Several powerful sculptures were commissioned for the park to illustrate the Civil Rights Movement events that happened here and this one was one of tho most moving. The park served as a gathering place for demonstrations in 1963 and fire hoses were turned on marchers, many of them children. This art piece depicts the #MLK #CivilRights

The Alabama Theatre was built in 1927 by Paramount Studios as an Alabama showcase for Paramount films. It was used primarily as a movie palace for 55 years. In 1987 the owners of the facility declared bankruptcy and the theatre was purchased by Birmingham Landmarks Inc. Now the Alabama Theatre for the Performing Arts, it hosts many live events. Each year the Theatre hosts over 300 events attended by a half million People. In 1998 the Theatre underwent a complete restoration.

Spacious king suite with nice furnishings. The hotel staff and valet are super nice. We were able to walk to the art museum and the park which is just across the street. I would return again after the renovations and when the restaurant is reopened.

plenty of shopping to do, the condition of the room we stayed in was less than average for a hotel like this. It’s meant portray as a nice hotel but the wall in the hotel was full of water damage, the beds were uncomfortable, the plugs in the room didn’t work. The staff was nice and the mall was ...
