  • This is the headstone of Banner Elk, North Carolina. This elk has been in the town forever, but this past year the elk has been refurbished and installed as the centerpiece of the town. This elk frames Appalachia in the sense of this small town pride in the mountains. In the background you can see the historic elementary school and rolling mountains and once again the North Carolina pride of the state flag surrounding this elk even though about 100ft to the right there is another flagpole with the same flags raised high and proud. This is where every child in this town went to school in this picturesque location but as time rolls on is Appalachia move on too? #appalachianechoes

  • Throughout my childhood I spent so much time at this park. I always remember of thinking of it as the park in the middle of the mountains. What I never noticed as a child was how every single aspect of this park was planned out and put there for a reason. Likewise before studying the photographic image I had never thought about how we construct a image and its affordances and constraints. One thing I really want to point out in this image is that while we have this beautiful park there is a huge ugly pipe in the middle of the photograph. It is part of the necessity of the planning of the park, just like the frame is a necessity of an image. We sometimes want to forget it is there but it is a necessary part of an image and still has meaning. #appalachianechoes

Amazing home!

Ridge line View is a wonderful home with everything provided. The views are stunning. If you visit in the winter, take seriously the caution that you will need both 4-wheel drive and chains. This home is on a mountain which is why the views are so spectacular.

Ridge line property

Great experience! Responsive staff. Already Planning our next trip back for next year! Eagles nest has a lot to offer for family fun. Put put golf with Mountain View’s, archery, several great picture spot opportunities, ATV riding, playground, fire pits with logs available for use, etc. the list can go on and on. We loved our stay in our cabin and all activities eagles nest provided.

Fantastic Abode

Everything was top notch. Spacious. Tastefully appointed. Super WiFi. Plenty of kitchen basics to be able to make dinners. Great long range views. Outside fireplace (real wood burning) and fire pit for cool evenings. Really a gorgeous mountain retreat. Way more than enough space and we had 2 adults taking calls and 2 kids on school zoom. Highly Recommend

Loved almost everything

House was spectacular and communication prior to our stay was excellent. Quick response and helpful. Did not realize how high up we would be and what the roads would be like going to and from the house. 4.5 miles up from the entrance. . We are from Florida so a better description of this would have been ideal. During snow storm, no communication on the road conditions and our group was very very nervous to leave regardless of 4WD or not. Sent multiple emails and calls with one 1 call from an after hours number that said property management will be in touch. Never heard back. We loved the fact it was a new house but didn’t love the fact that not only was the garage under construction( which we new about) almost all the houses around us were under construction with port-a- potties out front. Because of the house is been, I don’t feel it had all the kitchen stuff needed for a group. The beds and sheets were great and the layout was perfect. We hope to stay at Egales Nest again, just not so high up and with better communication

Beautiful Place!

This house is absolutely perfect for an escape. Everything is so beautiful and comfortable. Great porch to sit on (covered and uncovered). Kitchen is beautiful with plenty of space. Beds and linens were super comfortable. I couldn’t be happier. This was my second stay and won’t be my last. Thank you for reading, and please enjoy and be respectful to the property for the owners and future renters’ benefit!

Amazing House

Pros: I'm a clean freak and it meets my rental expectations. Beautiful views Super quiet Property Management TOP NOTCH responses & extremely helpful. Cons: Trying to find the home was very difficult. Not upload in maps. It is 4.5 miles from entrance and you must go up the 5000ft elevation mtn to get to other side of neighborhood where the home is located. Hope we can come back when it's warm!
