no signs for reception, doors were locked and there was no number or bell to ring, no wifi, no rubbish bin in room, curtains too small for the window, no toiletries, car park poorly lit, it looks like the hotel is under some sort of renovation, raining last night and the gutter was leaking

Damp smell throughout, furniture and furnishing were very cheap and aged. Disappointed with the quality versus what was advertised. Very small shower/barhroom, squeezed in. Not a premium or executive stay, very basic flat. For the cost, a hotel room would be a better option.

The oldest part of the church dates back to the 13th century. The church was enlarged during the 15th century and later had restoration work done under Sir George Gilbert Scott in the 19th century. The arcade – most of the windows and the south porch date from this time. The octagonal font is 13th/15 century. The wrought iron top is modern. The church has north and south aisles and a north chapel. The late 13th C 3 bay arcades have double chamfered arches with octagonal piers and moulded capitals. On the voussoirs are extensive traces of red painted foliage. The lower part of the tower is 13th century and retains the original narrow tower arch and small lancet window in the west wall. The upper tower was added in the 14th century together with the window. The reredos dated 1860 is mosaic and marble and displays Italian workmanship. Restoration dates of interest:- 1851 WA Nicholson – Architect – work undertaken in chancel included the painted ceiling 1859-60 Sir George G Scott – further restoration 1867 Reredos designed by RJ Withers and made by Salviati 1870-74 George G Scott Jnr, urgent restoration work.

Grade II*listed The church dates from the 13th century onwards and consists of a western tower, which was rebuilt in 1784 after its original spire fell down, nave with aisles and clerestory, chancel and north Chapel, south porch, and vestry. The tower is of three stages and has coped battlements and crocketted finials. The nave has four bays, and the clerestory has two light windows which are only external on the north side. The south aisle roof has been raised, and is therefore the windows are now internal. There is also a three light window at the apex of the nave east wall above the level of the chancel arch. The north arcade is early English, the south arcade later 13th century. The majority of the church was rebuilt in 1818-1821, with restorations in 1890, and the vestry added in 1894. There is a good amount of mediaeval stained glass, most of which has been obtained from elsewhere. The east window is wholly constructed from a mixture of these reset pieces. There is also a north western window, and several window traceries containing old glass. These were obtained by Henry Vincent Bayley, who became Archdeacon of Stow in 1827 and was Sub Dean at Lincoln Cathedral. There are also 19th-century windows by Burlison and Grylls. The current organ dates from 1976, and was taken from a redundant Methodist Chapel in South Yorkshire. The church has just received a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund to carry out extensive repairs to the roof and resolve other dampness-related problems.
