"Outdated rooms, mattress and pillows were very poor quality. Pool bar needs to be better maintained. Restaurants did not deliver. Staff seems to expect a tip for anything they do, from serving water at breakfast, to drinks at any of the bars. If you do not tip, you will not get service. Elevators take a very long time. Coffee bar did not open until 10am, what is the point of coffee half way through the morning? Too many locals pushing you to buy excursions on the beach, not comfortable to try and relax when being hounded. "

"Beautiful spacious room with large balcony overlooking the pool. The cleaning staff did a fantastic job on our room daily. Great views. Loved the rooftop pool (although it could have been better maintained). My lower rating for the property is general maintenance, staff, and food. If you call yourself a 5 star resort there are expectations. Our biggest issue was staff (with the exception of a couple employees). The entire time we were there we felt like an imposition. We had multiple meals without drinks (it actually became a joke between us). The crew handling the pool entertainment we unprofessional and unmanaged (getting drunk with the guests during work, sitting on laps). They were also known to grab phones, as for ‘googly’ and create their own reviews for the resort. "

"Ray was Awesome (personality & kindness) at the front desk. My complaint is the parking is not convenient and the bedding was horrible. The pillows were small and we only had 3 for a King bed. We asked for another and they said they didn't have anymore. Also the bed only came with one sheet and a blanket as thin as a sheet. I was freezing and had to sleep with my clothes on. I asked for another blanket the next day and there was nothing available. We stayed 3 nights, we had the AC off the last night. I didn't sleep well. I hate complaining but just want to give you a heads up. Price was good. Convience and bedding ( quality of sleep) was not. "

"Unfortunately we had a bad experience here. Not knowing anything about “Privilege”, made our stay feel super segregated. Couple that with service staff that look bothered when you order food or drinks and it just feels weird. Very few activities planned, and when they do plan then it was rarely executed on unless it was water aerobics. The facility was nice and the Privileged side of the beach was nice. "

"We were in building number 2 with a swim out on the first floor. We could barely see the pool due to the bushes, however it provided some privacy. The two pools were a good side. one had activities, a bar, and the kids area, and music. This was the better pool. The room was cleaned okay. They don’t change your sheets, only tidy them, even if they are visibly dirty. It was frustrating to us as they keep the door open during housekeeping which turns off the air and lots of bugs came in. I read several reviews of the staff being rude prior to going, and unfortunately I can confirm they are rude, inattentive, and if you need something it seems as though you’re a bother. Not once did we have service at the buffet, no one offered to fill drinks or get coffee for breakfast. We had to get our own drinks. When asking for mimosas, they said no. The staff acted as if we were invisible. If we actually got service and asked for a drink, it was forgotten about. I’ve never experienced this at any other Dominican resort. If you weren’t at the pool by 7:30am, you won’t get a chair at either pool. We had to put towels on the ground and sit down. Not one staff approached us while at the pool to get drinks. The magic show and circus show were good. The drinks made by Eddison at the pool bar were great, he was a sweetheart. I don’t think I would come back. I would rather get better service and go to a resort that is slightly pricier. "

"We spent a week at Barcelo Barbara Palace. The service was excellent. The staff were all very friendly. The food was excellent and there was a ride variety of all types of dishes for Young and Old that you could choose from. The resort is big but well organized so it doesn’t take much to get from one area to another. I would definitely recommend this hotel for a terrific getaway for families or groups of adults. "
