Peaceful Retreat

Loved every minute vacationing at the Guest House "Holly Hill" in Charles City, VA! The Saltwater Pool was extremely luxurious and relaxing! Even though we had quite a few days of rain, the sun still came out long enough for us to swim in the pool! The two new managers Justin and Charles were very nice and helpful. This was their first year managing the property and they did an excellent job! Was sad that Steve Rula, Jr has retired and we missed not seeing his smiling face! Wish Steve the best of luck and now he can enjoy relaxing!If you're looking for peace and quiet this is the place where you want to go! Out in the country away from city noise and traffic! You'll love it!

Escaping to the countryside

A great place, clean, beautiful nature around.We had activities in Williamsburg, VA. The place was about 30 min drive thru peaceful countryside. Highly recommended !!

One night stay

Needed a place to stay for 1 night for a family event. The home is cozy and the check in process was the easiest I’ve had with any Vrbo. No guessing, no challenges with the door code. The downstairs bed is heaven. THE most comfortable bed ever! The host is easy to communicate with and he made arrangements for us to be able to check in early so we could get settled in first and then attend our family event on time.

Lovely cottage in the woods

Perfect place for our small family and dogs - clean, comfortable, quiet, well-appointed place with everything we needed for a few days. Lovely touches in and outdoors. Communication with the owner was great. Highly recommend if you want to get away from the world for a few days!

Perfect spot for wedding weekend

We needed a place close to the Charles River ferry for a wedding. The property was unique but charming, perfect for the family and 2 dogs. Don’t expect close restaurants or shopping (15 minutes to the closest) and watch for the deer but we had an enjoyable stay and Steve was a gracious and attentive host.

Great stay in Charles City

We had 2 couples stay with us and had a wonderful time kicking back and enjoying our stay. The owner, Steve, should change his name to Johnny as in "Johnny on the spot!" We had almost no issues, but the small ones we had were taken care of in literally minutes! He was more than attentive and even gave of a tour the House next door that is used for events e.g. Wedding. The Pool House was exceptional and was well worth the extra price (minimal) for the week. Great place to play cards, socialize, and have an adult beverage. Highly recommend Holly Hill.

Excellent stay at the country retreat

Family trip to Busch Gardens

We came up Friday afternoon from the beach of NC to enjoy the crisp cool fall weather in Charles City, VA. We really enjoyed Holly Hill’s historical feel yet updated amenities. The shower in the master bathroom was a real treat! The home felt quaint upon entry but the kitchen had a commercial sink and gas stove/oven as well as 2 leather couches in the living space. We were very impressed with the pool and back deck with table that seated 6 to star gaze in the cool night air. We will visit again

Holly Hill cottage was great. Steve was an awesome host. Took us on a tour of Carry Hill house. Quiet little place with a huge pool that the kids loved. Will definitely come back again soon!!

Another Amazing Stay!!!

How could it be better?!? The grounds are beautiful, the pool is fantastic, it’s so peaceful, and every possible need is taken care of! We absolutely love Holly Hill and can’t recommend it highly enough! Steve, Russell, (and hoping to meet Patience in person one day), thank you for everything to make our stay so enjoyable! And our dog Abbie was as sorry to leave as we were!

Best Vacation Spot Ever!

This was our third time...YES, THIRD TIME...going to the Holly Hill" Guest House! Have gone during the month of July for three years in a row! It's a very relaxing, peaceful, quiet, and enjoyable place to stay! We were in the 20' x 60' Inground Saltwater Pool every day and most nights! Just heavenly! Steve Rula, Jr, the Owner of the Property is very helpful, courteous, and knowledgeable! He told us about the Plantation House "Cary Hill circa 1741" that is also on his Property! It's three stories, full of antiques and Steve rents part of this building and surrounding grounds for special events such as Weddings! So beautiful! We stayed in the two story Guest House "Holly Hill" which is quite spacious! It is surrounded by 5,500 acres of wildlife refuge! On the main floor is the living room, dining area, kitchen (fully equipped), main bedroom with king size bed, and a bathroom with a Jacuzzi Tub and the largest shower we've ever seen! Upstairs are two bedrooms, one has twin beds and the other has a queen size bed. There is a bathroom with tub and shower that is shared by both bedrooms! "Holly Hill" is completely furnished with towels, blankets, sheets, linens, kitchen utensils including pots and pans, dishes, silverware, glassware, stove, refrigerator and dishwasher! You can wash your clothes, if necessary, in the basement which has two washing machines and three dryers! You just need to bring your clothes and food! Happy family stay

We thoroughly enjoyed out stay at Holly Hill! We were meeting to catch up with some family in Richmond and Virginia Beach. We had ample space to stretch out during their day visits - and the cottage was perfectly comfortable for us (5 of us). The pool was WONDERFUL! And Steve is the perfect host!! He checked in with us regularly and offered to pick up needed items from the store. We will come again!

Amazing and magical place

We were scheduled to stay for 7 days. The cottage is beautiful, perfectly clean and had absolutely everything we could possibly need; even to cook almost every meal there. Beds are really comfortable. The pool is beautiful and has lots of lounge chairs and umbrellas, we had a great time reading, resting, singing and dancing by the pool. The property is a dream. Everywhere you look, you will find beautiful flowers, trees and amazing sculptures. Steve the owner and host was wonderful, very kind and responsive to every single need we could possibly have. He has decorated the place with impecable taste. He even decorated many trees around with solar powered chandeliers that make the property feel absolutely magical at night. We were so happy, we ended up extending our stay for 3 more days. And I wish we could have stayed longer. Í´ll be booking this property every year if possible. Thank you so much Steve for such an amazing vacation, we cańt wait to come back.

Wedding Weekend Winner!

We were in the area for a weekend full of nearby wedding activities. The host, Steve, was super communicative and responsive. He was incredibly responsive and accommodating. The property is lovely, and well maintained. The outdoor lighting and the fun sculptures added to our enjoyment of the property. Not only do I recommend this property, I’ll seek it out for a return trip!

Perfect stay!

Steve was a great host and the place is exactly as described. It was a great place to unwind and relax after a long day on the road. A specail treat is watching the tree canopy come alive at night with all the chandeliers in the trees. Very nice touch! We will be returning. Thanks for a wonderful stay for my family.

Peaceful holiday

This was likely the most relaxing holiday weekend we have ever had. Nestled in the country is this wonderful cottage with 60 foot salt water pool that you have all to yourself. The owner, Steve, lives on the acreage and ensured we had everything to make our stay. If you are looking to get away from people and have some great family time with pool, BBQ, and relaxation - no need to look elsewhere.

Away in the Country

Our stay was low-key and fun, however, did not realize how far in the country the cottage was (~10 miles from grocery, gas). Hearing hunting shotguns go off from early morning to evening was a bit unsettling. The locals drive in the country on curving roads at least 20 MPH above the speed limit, this was quite scary for those not local to the area. The cottage was charming and our dog enjoyed the small fenced enclosure leading up to the Cottage's front door. Lady bugs were in for the winter and prevalent upstairs by the windows and hall light. Maybe find ways to prevent the ladybugs from coming inside. Did not want to kill this beneficial insect but their presence inside in multitudes left one sleeping upstairs with their eyes open. The woods are beautiful behind the cottage but across the street are cotton fields with huge machinery parked. Overall, the cottage certainly had charm and was a fun, quiet place to ring in the New Year.

Xmas Oasis

This property is about 25 mins from williamsburg which was an oasis in a wonderfully chaotic christmas visit to mom/sibs in w'burg. Peaceful country charm. Solitude and sunrises. Easily accomodated 5 adults and 2 dogs. Kitchen came in handy for cooking my portion of xmas dinner. Steve is a wonderful host and has very thoughtfully made a comfortable home away from home. Having a fenced yard for the dogs is so helpful. They got to run around in safety. This is our second xmas at Holly Hill. The best!

Beautiful location

The house is nice. Entry and stay instructions were very clear and easy to understand. Kitchen was well equipped and provided linens and towels were nice. Living room was comfortable and setting was bucolic.
