"The house is absolutely stunning full of antiques in keeping with the medieval era. The view through the window over the river was magnificent. All the beds had comfortable mattresses and pillows, and it was very dark and quiet and we slept well. The size of the house was perfect for our family of five. The kitchen had very good for facilities for cooking. You do need to be quite fit to stay at Mont Joie as it is at the top of the hill that you need to walk up and within the house itself, there are two long flights of stairs. "

A few small quibbles, none dispositive: the master bedroom bed won't agree with side sleepers and needs replacing, The poolhouse bed was represented by the delightful husband wife cleaning team as nonfunctional.The poolside stationary bike is conceptually sound but the device's maintenance has been sadly neglected and would be cyclists straddling the weather beaten wobbly seat precariously situated above an unstable and poorly designed plinth can anticipate perineal trauma.Now, if any of this discourages a stay here, I have served you poorly.Since most reviewers are not as persnickety as I am any unhappiness in an otherwise glowing review can be seen as a rule out. Glowing reviews have self-censured and so the eye is gouged and fantasy skewered by reports of imperfection. "We spent a wonderful week at La Bourgarde and couldn’t have asked for a better stay. The property was perfect – just a short walk into Castelnaud for morning pastries and close enough to enjoy an afternoon swim. The location made it easy to pack in so many activities, and our whole family loved every moment. Check-in was seamless, and the host was excellent with communication and helpful advice throughout our stay. We will definitely be returning – highly recommended!"

"We had a wonderful stay at the house. This was one if the best equipped house we ever stayed in (all equipment and basic necessities are stocked)—very practical when visiting from abroad. Everything is exactly as described and the host takes great care of all details and for you to have a great stay. Plus she greated us with some local food to taste. We stayed with our 2 year old son who enjoyed playing in the big yard (the provided baby bed, high chair and potty were a real bonus). We would highly recommend staying at Evelyne’s house for quiet family vacations in the country, yet close to everything in the beautiful Dordogne area."
