Welcome to Woodland Cottage on Lake Catoma in Cullman Al

Relax with the whole family at Woodland Cottage. Nothing beats the feeling of being on a quiet lake and watching the wildlife from your screened in back porch. Drink your morning coffee while watching the sunrise over the lake. Easy walk down to the water's edge to birdwatch, catch some fish, or just mentally unwind with the sounds of nature.

Two master bedrooms upstairs with full sized bathrooms and plenty of room. One bedroom has a king-sized bed with a tub/shower combo, the other has 4 twin beds with a shower. Main living level has a large living room, dining room, kitchen, and laundry room with washer and dryer. For those that like a little fun and competition there is also a rec room located downstairs with a ping-pong table.

Full length covered porches on both the front and back sides of the house make for fun gathering spots while enjoying the outdoors. There's even a fun tree swing for the kids in the backyard as well.

This is truly the epitome of a relaxing home on the lake. Ever see the movie "On Golden Pond"? Well this is it, only quieter and more peaceful. You would never guess that the best that Cullman has to offer, including shopping and restaurants, is only 10 minutes away by car.

  • Final resting place for Brother Joseph, who created the art that is known as Ave Maria Grotto.This is a cemetery of only monks in residence at St. Bernard Abbey. Ave Maria Grotto, in Cullman, Alabama, is a landscaped, 4-acre park in an old quarry on the grounds of St. Bernard Abbey, providing a garden setting for 125 miniature reproductions of some of the most famous religious structures of the world. It was added to the Alabama Register of Landmarks and Heritage on February 24, 1976, and to the National Register of Historic Places on January 19, 1984. The stone and concrete models are the work of Brother Joseph Zoettl, a Benedictine monk of St. Bernard's Abbey, who devoted some 50 years to the project, the last three decades (1932 to 1961) almost without interruption. They incorporate discarded building supplies, bricks, marbles, tiles, pipes, sea shells, marbles, plastic animals, costume jewellery, toilet bowl floats and cold cream jars. Born in 1878 in the Kingdom of Bavaria, Brother Joseph was maimed in an accident that left him slightly hunched due to cervical kyphosis. He immigrated to the United States as a teenager, settling in northern Alabama. Soon afterward he began studying at the newly founded Benedictine monastery of St. Bernard, where he took his vows in 1897. Br. Joseph was not allowed to be ordained as a priest, due to the rule of the period that stated any man with a distracting disability could not be ordained a priest. He ran the monastery’s power plant and was, even by a monk's standards, a withdrawn, quiet man. Brother Joseph rarely left Alabama, where he died in 1961.

We rented this house to celebrate one of our adult son's birthday. The location is very accessible, the house was comfortable and clean. Our son's also had a great time fishing. We would recommend this lake house to others looking for a location that is not too remote but still offers a quiet retreat to spend a long weekend with family.

This cottage is so precious and homey!! We felt so comfortable and relaxed during our stay! The kitchen was equipped to prepare any meal, and the grill was perfect for our family of six! We especially loved the ping pong table, huge porch, and the oh-so-wonderful bed swing on the screened in porch! It was perfect for an afternoon nap! We will definitely book this cottage again!

We attended an archery tournament and used the cabin as our base. Such an easy drive to and from the cabin. The view was gorgeous! A really good place to unwind is the screened in back porch. We are thinking about reserving for next year!

Everything was perfect. The area was super nice, quiet and peaceful. The home was clean and cozy. We especially loved the bed swing on the back porch. It was so relaxing. Check-in was super easy and the hosts were very kind! Hope we can return!

We absolutely loved our stay at this beautiful rustic and cozy home! From the moment we walked in, we felt right at home. The cabin had the perfect mix of charm and comfort, with plenty of space for everyone to relax. The beds were incredibly comfortable, ensuring a great night’s sleep after busy days.One of our favorite spots was the downstairs game area — we had so much fun with the ping pong table! Our grandson was in heaven fishing in the lake; he spent nearly every moment with a rod in his hand, and it was such a joy to watch.The house itself was well-equipped, clean, and had everything we needed for a perfect getaway. Spacious yet cozy, it was the ideal place to unwind and make lasting family memories. We can’t wait to come back next year!

We were in town visiting family for 2 family reunions, the house was beautiful and was everything we expected, it was a lot like our own home and the view of the lake was amazing. Kids and pops enjoyed fishing, not much luck but lots of 😊

Nice Stay in Central Alabama

We loved the location of this property. It was perfect for our goals of the trip which was business in Huntsville and pleasure all around Cullman. Nice large house with nice large rooms. It would be great for a family. It would have been nice to have a greeting book that just told you some of the owners' favorite restaurants and things to do around the area, as well orientation to the house. We did not even find the second upstairs bathroom until the morning we were leaving. Also would have been nice to know that the beautiful lake it sits on does not allow swimming. Many of the screens had holes in them. Though we realize the area down by the lake has probably not been developed to discourage swimming, I think there is a major miss by not having a landing there with chairs. Our only REALLY big gripe is we had a invatation of piss (sugar) ants from the location. We came out one morning to leave and found a army of ants crawling across our dash. We had to run and find some raid at the nearest store. We bug bombed the cab of the truck while we were at a museum and drove around the rest of the day with the lovely smell of raid. We also could not sit at the picnic table or down by the lake due to the ants. The day that we left we went to Memphis. We stopped along the way to have lunch and when I opened the back to get sun-screen out, the whole back of our truck was filled with piss ants! So we had to bug bomb that. Other than that great place.

Great Weekend getaway

This was the perfect spot for a weekend getaway. The view is beautiful. It’s very quite but conveniently located near groceries stores and shopping. Great communication with hosts made check in and out a breeze. Highly recommend!

Memorial Weekend Get-away

This was a Memorial Day to remember! My husband, son and daughter in-law, with two of our youngest grandchildren, really enjoyed staying in this cabin on the lake. The property is deceptively large, many large common area's on two-levels and the entire upstairs dedicated to bedrooms, each with an ensuite. The porch over looking the lake made my entire weekend. I read a whole novel, with a nice white wine, while laying on the swinging bed. Too awesome! I recommend highly! The location is perfect, neighbors homes are far apart and walking down the country roads with my dog Aly and granddaughter Emma was precious!
