Cozy Cabin Getaway - Convenient to 4 Ski Areas, Hiking and Mountain Bike Trails

Tucked into the side of a mountain in beautiful Canaan Valley, our little "Ski Hytte" is a true quiet getaway. It is an "unplugged" getaway that focuses on food, family and quality time. The screen distractions are minimal and the cabin games are plentiful.

4WD / AWD vehicles are a must to access the property - especially in the winter months.

On the main floor you will find:
A well-outfitted kitchen with a kitchen island that seats 2. The kitchen has everything from an ice-cream maker to a fondue set as well as all the basics. The dining area has a table that seats as many as 8 and also doubles as a ping-pong table!
2 steps down into the living room you'll find a large fireplace with a comfy couch and a foosball table as well as books, puzzles, board and card games.
Down the hall of the main floor you will find the master bedroom with queen size bed and an ensuite bathroom with shower. Across the hall is the 2nd bedroom with a full size bed and access to the hall bathroom with a tub and shower. Each of the main floor bedrooms have a door to a semi-private deck. Each one with an uninterrupted view of a gorgeous night sky.
On the Basement level you will find:
Down a spiral staircase, is the 3rd bedroom which also doubles as a game room. There is a twin bunkbed, a small futon and a few beanbag chairs for lounging. The one and only TV plays a small selection of DVD's and Wii games, so not completely unplugged! There is a small basket of kids toys and figurines as well as a dartboard.
The 3rd bathroom has a walk-in shower and the washer and dryer is located here as well.

We hope you enjoy our home as much as we do. It is an excellent "base camp" for all of your outdoor adventures in this beautiful corner of West Virginia.

Our long weekend getaway in March started with half a foot of snow and ended with spring temperatures. We found everything we needed, including shovels to deal with the snow. We enjoyed the CD collection and loved gazing at the stars from the deck in the dark. Everyone had settled on a favorite coffee mug from the eclectic collection by the end of our stay. Our dog enjoyed the local squirrels and deer, but she was not keen on the spiral stairs. The upstairs bedrooms had high ceilings with fans and bathroom shower heads placed high enough for taller guests. The only conversation we needed with the responsive host was accommodating and cordial. The driveway was an opportunity to flex our WV driving skills and our necessary all-wheel drive. This cozy cabin was a wonderful outpost to explore so many fantastic things that the area had to offer.

Snow and ice removal were not safe conditions to traverse but host communicated about the conditions via their cleaning service. Host did not offer any solutions nor offer any assistance with salt for safety - asked me to supply salt, nor was snow removal done on steps or front walk area. Even the steps and main area leading to the front door were still covered with ice and snow which we shoveled and cleared. Lights in the main room above the kitchen were out and the lighting was very dim. Many cobwebs in the windows and debris/dust/objects were visible in living room around foosball table and game rack as well as under the couches.

We hope to come back as soon as possible! This beautiful home was even better than the pictures. Huge deck with gorgeous views, sunken living room with wood-burning fireplace, games, amazing CD collection, open kitchen, every room with it's own full bathroom. Truly a lovely place and so close to the slopes!

Host messaged us promptly with directions and check in info before our arrival. The house itself is beautiful, spacious and comfortable.We were there during a major storm that froze up a good portion of the US this January, the roads and the driveway were plowed twice during the storm but we still needed do to a lot of digging and had to use chains on our 4WD to get out of the driveway and the resort roads, with all the VERY crusty ice everywhere. No reflection whatsoever on the host, but they are not kidding when they say 4WD at a minimum to access the steep driveway in the winter!

This cabin was fully stocked with anything you could need. The downstairs area was great for the evening time spent at the cabin. The checking in process was super easy as well as the check out instructions. We had a wonderful time and would definitely come back.

This cabin was cute and cozy! It was clean and comfortable, and it met all of our needs. The kitchen was well-stocked so we could cook, the rooms/bathrooms were great, and the host was easy to communicate with. It was the perfect, quiet getaway!

Family reunion

We got to the cabin it was nice but needs a very very good cleaning. We have a special needs son that crawls and his legs and feet were black from the dirty floors.i can’t tell you how many times i wiped him down and gave him a bath. My husband ran the vacuum cleaner cause there was dirt in every corner and dirt on the floors. The beds are super hard and when we took the sheets off the beds at check out there were pee stains on mattress covers. Also they definitely need a hand railing to walk down the steps to the house. Also the downstairs was like sitting in a sauna the whole stay it never cooled off. The spiral stairs to go downstairs were not very trusting. We had to go out front door and walk around the house to go downstairs due to the spiral staircase. Definitely need to redo that idea. Also the towels smelled awful we had to rewash them. There is no ac so you only have windows to open and can’t open the doors cause there are no sliding screen doors on any of the doors in the house and let me tell you the moisture in the house was awful. Every morning everything was damp even the couch. The one small couch has three legs broke on it so u can really sit on it. A lot of Cobb webs and spiders every where. There is a hole in the deck coming out from the kitchen we had to put cardboard over it. The deck and stairs outside are very slippery from it not being cleaned. My daughter actually fell a few times just walking to the car. Need a motion light outside so it’s not dark.

Cozy family vacation

This was definitely an experience very relax and a comfortable atmosphere the kids loved the games and toys that were included. I absolutely enjoyed cooking in a spacious kitchen. I appreciated how Veronica wrote in detail In the welcome booklet what was around the town restaurants, waterfalls, outdoor activities. This was definitely a trip far from home but worth it. Thank you for opening your home for us to experience the beautiful nature of West Virginia.

Too Hot to Handle

This was our groups 3rd trip to this property. This time around we found the place to be a little less than expected, with debris on the decks, dirty floors, grill and utensils. The real issue, however was the lack of air conditioning. We were aware of this prior to booking and it wasn’t a problem in the past but this year’s weather was unseasonably warm and there was absolutely nowhere to escape the heat. Roofs over the porches or even shade tarps would be beneficial here. It is a lovely property and location and we’ve had some fun times there but it’s time to seek another location for future gatherings.

The house is beautiful. We enjoyed our stay immensely. Unfortunately, there were daddy long legs in the basement and the kids refused to sleep there. The only thing I would change is to put rubber mats in the showers. I am slightly disabled and it was slipery. Overall, it was great and I would recommend it to everyone!

Getting There

The property is very nice. It's apparent a lot of upgrades have been made and more to come. Heck, there's even tissues throughout the house which you don't find many places. The only pick I have is that steps leading down to the house were barely cleared of snow/ice and very difficult and dangerous to negotiate with suitcases. I shoveled them myself the next day.

Great location if there’s no snow

We took our son to Timberline for his birthday. I understand that you can’t help the weather. When we arrived nothing was shoveled. You park above the house and have to walk down a hill to the house. Because it wasn’t shoveled two of us fell. Because it wasn’t shoveled we also didn’t have access to the wood or the grill. I did write Veronica and she had someone come after we were there two days. The road the cabin is on has 4 homes. Every single person got stuck and needed to be towed out. The plow doesn’t come down the road because we were told he’d get stuck. Our tow guy even said they hired a new plow guy and he’s not keeping up. 175 dollars later for a tow we weren’t to happy. There was a boulder they scraped on the road that was taller than my husband’s waist. No car or truck could make it up the hill. So if there snow don’t park on Slippery Slope Drive as we had 4 wheel drive along with everyone else. Home was nice for what we needed. The cabin was well stocked. The only improvements would be fix the rail going downstairs as a screw is sticking out. Provide dishcloths and I’ve never seen a place that doesn’t unload dishwasher for guests.

Cute Little Cabin

Family members enjoyed their stay at this little cabin.Necessary supplies were provided, and the kitchen was fairly well appointed.As others have noted, the beds are very firm. Hand soap is provided, but bring your own bath products. The master was supplied with two towels & washcloths.We all felt that a TV upstairs is a needed improvement, since there is not enough seating downstairs for a family.There were no batteries for the Wii, so I would suggest bringing batteries if you plan to use the system.The owners are apparently in process of doing updates, and they have had some useful and attractive work done. The kitchen counters and wood flooring are two examples of this.Cleaning was adequate, but some might find it a little less thorough than they would like.As others have mentioned, the spiral stairs are tight, and may be a little precarious for some, but we were all able to negotiate them.Older adults spent their time upstairs, but, again, we all would have loved to watch a movie together in the upstairs area.The owner was helpful with questions, even when I should have found the answers in the house booklet.
