This was a great place to get away for a week in the summer. July 2024-very wet, rain almost daily. Made it so much more relaxing!!!
River-slow and shallow enough for younger kids to play. As long as you can see the rocks. It did rain almost daily and one day all the rocks were under water and we did not let the kids enter then. Not good fishing when we were there July.
Wildlife- spotted deer several times, lots and lots of birds, even a bear one morning!!!
Kitchen- it does have everything you “need” but the quality of stuff provided did leave something to be desired. When we come back we will bring our own as some of the mixing utensils were just bad. And the knives were very dull with no way to sharpen. We cooked every meal there expect for one so that was a bit of a pain point for me. Recommending bring your own cutting board as well, they have one but it’s very used and was difficult to clean since everything was sticking to it. Gas stove and grill were both perfect for cooking! And they did have everything you could need for the grill.
Downtown Ellijay- CUTE little downtown. Perfect for a lite afternoon. Many little places to wonder. Several antique shops, wine places, fudges and soaps. Lots of fun. And parking there is plenty and free.
Shopping- several small grocery stores once you get to main road and a Walmart about 30 mins away.
Property- this was a lovely home and we would go back. It was perfect that everyone had their own room to retire. Bedrooms did not have personal tvs a bit of a bummer for the kids. Game rooms has a good selection to pick from, it is in the basement with very cold concrete floors don’t know if we would have used as much in the winter. Patios were so comfortable and you can sit and listen to the river, could have used a dusting of some of the cobwebs though.
Fair warning- the road to get there is Rough. Gravel and steep turns, a few places had washed out. Lucky our party had 4 wheel drive and experienced drivers but I don’t know if I would want to take a sedan on it (but we did see some on that road.) Also to note the outside did have some slippery stones. For the walk way to get into the home since that is where the keypad is we choose to use driveway to avoid them. If you had elderly guests with us I would be very cautious. Also the steps leading into the river. Also the path leading to the fire pit and down to the river was very washed out and more mud then stone when we were there so just be prepared.
Overall 4 out of 5 stars. We would definitely go back as it was the perfect drive time for us. The home itself was wonderful just needs a bit more maintenance. The hot tub was not working at the time of our visit and we did have a few uninvited guests get in to the trash outside and a few bugs get inside. But it was not enough to outweigh being about to sit outside and just live with the sound of the water and wildlife around. Perfect with a cup of coffee or a glass of wine!
