Sharp or pointed objects, like a Swiss Army knife, and dangerous goods which are flammable or explosive, such as spray paint, flares and gasoline, are also prohibited.

What to wear on a flight:

• The aisles of a plane aren't the place for a fashion parade. Layer up with comfy clothing and pick shoes that are enclosed, flat and easy to slip on and off.
• You're probably aware of deep vein thrombosis (DVT), a blood clotting condition caused by prolonged periods of sitting. To minimize your risk on board, drink lots of water, consider wearing compression socks or tights and keep your feet and legs moving.

• Have your travel documents and passport at hand. They're the first items you'll be asked for by airport security.
• After that, both you and your hand luggage will be X-rayed. To make the process quick and painless, take off anything that might set the alarms off. Personal belongings such as your belt, jacket and earphones will be required to go through the machine.
• All your electronic devices, including your tablet and phone, will also need to be scanned.
• Remove liquids and gels from your carry-on luggage. They usually need to be sent through the X-ray scanner separately. Each product should be in a container no larger than 3.4 ounces (100 millilitres) and everything must fit inside a quart-size (one litre), clear zip-lock bag.
• There's a possibility that you'll need to remove your shoes to be X-rayed, so wearing slip-on shoes is always a wise idea.
