Wherever you're jetting in from, flying can be a pleasant experience if you prepare well enough. Follow these handy hints that will help get your Rue escape started on the right foot. What to pack in your hand luggage:

• A plane ride can be easy if you pack the right stuff. Firstly, you'll want a few basic toiletries, such as a toothbrush and lip balm, a fresh change of clothes and a good read. • Deep vein thrombosis (DVT), a blood clot condition caused by prolonged periods of inactivity, can be a risk on long-haul flights. Walk around the cabin and give your legs a stretch or do some gentle exercises in your seat to improve your circulation.

• Airport security personnel first need to know that you have a valid ID and travel documents before anything else. Have them ready to show.

• Choosing your footwear wisely can save you several minutes. Boots and bulky shoes are often required to be removed and separately scanned. Lightweight sneakers are usually not.
• Airlines will not allow any pocket knives or other sharp items in your hand luggage. If you need to bring these kinds of items, pack them safely in your checked baggage.
