Hotel Quinta da Penha de França was a quiet and quaint hotel. It was walkable to the main square with many restaurants nearby to choose from. The breakfast options were the best that we experienced in our 24 day trip in Portugal.

We very much enjoyed our stay here. It was only a 10 minute walk to the marina. We found the breakfast to be especially delicious with plenty of choices. The coffee was fabulous . Staff are very attentive, friendly, and helpful.

Beautiful garden with small pool, bigger pool and access to the sea near. Good breakfast, good restaurant in the hotel and more just on neighbourhood. Friendly staff. It was the third time in this nice hotel. Easy way to drive to hotel and Seat. Highly recommend!

Very nice centrally located hotel

Really nice hotel, centrally located. My room was very big and comfortable. The front desk was amazing. I was leaving at 4:00 am. They made sure that I had a breakfast set the night before.

Excellent staff, very relaxed atmosphere. Good selection of food for breakfast. Hotel very clean and within walking distance of the old town. The room was spacious but a little sparse, hotel layout quite quirky, lots of different small buildings. Evening meal tasty and liked extra touches, small appetiser and drink were complimentary. Sister hotel whose facilities we could use was over a footbridge across a road and down in a lift, not good if like me you dont like heights. Overall a very good property.

This property has 2 sites we stayed at the one by the sea Quinta Penha de Franca Mar So glad we booked in November to have a room with a Seaview. The room was very spacious the only issue is that it could with a refurb especial in the bathroom. However it is still serviceable and we paid a lot less compared to other 4 stars. It is a fab location to explore Funchal & the island. Breakfast buffet was excellent Lots of choice & freshly cooked omelette if you wanted Staff were very friendly & helpful Overall we had a great week & enjoyed our stay at this hotel

Disappointed

Hotel is in need of a revamp. Bathrooms and bedrooms are clean but need updating. Threadbare carpet to stairs. No umbrellas around top pool. Dining/bar areas not particularly inviting, hence Joes bar nearly always empty as cold and uncomfortable. The old buildings are in need of maintenance and the outdoor seating breakfast/dinner area could do with tidying up, some sort of netted structure over kitchen that looks awful. Breakfast staff/reception staff dont seem particularly happy and no welcome on arrival or during stay. Warm breakfast food not inviting, all processed, didnt touch any of hot food all week, just not inviting. Was probably prestigious in its day but no longer. Good location but noisy around pool due to building work nearby.

Location was good, parking on the property was a major plus. Two pools and ocean access for swimming was really nice. Daily breakfast buffet was extensive, restaurant staff were very attentive. The property has been around a long while and seems to have numerous expansions. Our room was quite tired and could use some maintenance. Private balcony with semi ocean view was lovely tho.

Nice large room with balcony, although a little dated. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Hotel provided a cake and a bottle of wine on my birthday which was a nice touch. Good facilities with a beachfront section. Only problem with the room was the air conditioning did not work, just blew warm air. I reported it a couple of times and maintenance had a look but it was not rectified. Otherwise it would have been 5 stars.

Staff was very nice and helpful. Property is not in great condition. Curtains in our room were torn. Carpeting and furniture are old and worn. The pool deck tile needs repairs. Breakfast was so so. It was the same every day so it got boring. Today's scrambled eggs were so watery they were not appetizing at all.
