Well presented Hotel, with lovely Pool Gardens and Public areas. Helpful and friendly staff. Great location, short walk into Funchal. Only negative was that the room was sometimes noisy, as there was an inter-connecting door, so we could hear the people in the next room. Would recommend.

Property is fantastic. Staff was extremely helpful throughout. Great location within walking distance of Funchal. Restaurants around were excellent even though we found the Pub on site to be excellent. Would definitely go back.

The Pestana was only 20 mins from the airport, very convenient. The hotel and it's staff were absolutely fantastic. From the moment we arrived we were greeted with smiles. The reception staff were friendly and very efficient. The restaurant staff were so obliging and helpful. Thoroughly enjoyed the week we stayed, great choice for our wedding anniversary. Highly recommended.

The front desk staff were extremely accommodating. The breakfast was great difficult getting a coffee when having breakfast on the terrace. Easy access to the center of town. Theirnpub was very comfortable

The amenities were less than expected. The pools and hottub, although beautiful, were cold. The fitness center was in the pool area. The restaurant was expensive and the buffet food was tasteless and boring. The carafe coffee was awful! And the parking was expensive.

We have been staying in the Pestana Carlton since 1994. It has a great location with selection of nice restaurants in walking distance. It is also close to Funchal city center. However, standards are declining with no lift from upper to lower pool levels and poor service in upper pool cafe. The ladies in the Atlántico Bar were amazing - friendly and efficient.

Good Stay

The hotel is nice with large but dated rooms. My room was clean and comfortable. It took me approximately 30 minutes to walk to the old town. Breakfast was included and there was a large spread with lots of variety each morning. Staff was friendly and helpful. I would recommend this hotel.

The Pestana Carlton is in a great location for strolling down to the centre of Funchal or towards the Lido area in the other direction. There are restaurants in the hotel and also a good selection of bars and restaurants within a couple of hundred meters. The hotel is clean and the rooms light and airy with either ocean or town views, both of which are excellent (no dingy air wells here!), probably quieter on the ocean side. The breakfast is excellent, with a wide choice from omelettes made to order to fresh fruit and delicious local pastries. Altogether a very pleasant atmosphere with excellent facilities and friendly and helpful staff.

Beautiful room grounds and location. Staff amazing. But we had ants in our room air conditioning not strong enough to cool room had to leave on all day and blinds closed to cool. Safe instruction not correct, but replaced safe to one with proper instructions. Has salon on site which i used and was good for wash and blow dry. Room was spacious and large bathroom.

The location of the Pestana Carlton is ideal. It is an easy walk to the old town and toward the Lido hotel zone. There are great restaurants and shopping close by. The downside is that the hotel is so large that there is no personal touch. Most of the staff were pleasant but didn’t go over and above to make you feel welcome. The rooms were adequate but could use updating. The balcony has beautiful views of the harbor and ocean.

Our check in experience was wonderful, we were warmly greeted and given great tips and information about the island! The resort itself is large, several swimming pools available and well maintained. We stayed in a junior suite with 2 children (who used the sofa bed which was comfortable and large), it was not ocean view, but was spacious and clean. For a 5 star resort a few small things could be tidied up, such as many scuffs on walls, carpet upgraded, but other than that room was good! The breakfast buffet is simply amazing!! We looked forward to it every morning! Great experience overall!
