Lakeside Log Home, fireplace, snowmobile trails, parking, skiing, dog-friendly

The Wild Winds is a nature lover’s paradise all year round. We offer many trails for hiking and/or biking. Enjoy fishing, boating and relaxing on the lake and beach, just steps from your rustic cabin. Or spend time at our private pond (actually a small lake) nestled in the woods, for swimming and canoeing. Or for a little more excitement the Wild Winds is only 7-8 Miles from world class golfing, shopping, restaurants and other sporting lakes. If you like to take short day trips you could go to Petoskey to see beautiful Lake Michigan, or spend your day at Mackinac Island.

“Junior’ cabin has 2 all-season bedrooms and a 3-season back bedroom and sleeps 7-11, and it has a fireplace!

Our other vacation cabin is calle “Honeymoon” (VRBO 298533) The log homes are right on Wequas Lake, and our beautiful private lake is just a short walk into the woods.

Both homes come equipped with satellite TV, washer, dryer, full kitchen and 1 bath. FREE Hi-SPEED INTERNET. The price is the same for either log home. In July and August we rent by the week (Saturday to Saturday) There is $100 cleaning fee, and well-behaved dogs are permitted for an additional fee.

There are a total of four homes at the Wild Winds; the Lodge (where my niece lives), the Dorm (my house) and two vacation log homes.

Thinking ahead to other seasons? The Wild Winds is a winter wonderland! Stay in this rustic, cozy log home at the Wild Winds that we call the “Junior” cabin (built in the 1950’s). Snowmobile trails start at the top of our driveway. Cross-country ski on our 70 acres of private trails, or visit groomed county trails only a couple of miles away. Ski downhill courses such as Treetops or Boyne Mountain, each only about half an hour away. Or simply enjoy the pristine beauty of our acres of pine forest in their winter frosting!

There is room to park a trailer here.

When our employees arrived they found that the cabin didn't match the pictures posted online. One of the beds was on an enclosed porch, there were holes in the wall, the ceiling was falling in, and the roads were poorly maintained. When asked for a refund due to these reasons it was declined. Overall, it was not portrayed accurately online.

Our stay at Wild Wind Cabins during our winter snowmobile trip was absolutely perfect. The snow-covered surroundings created a peaceful and picturesque retreat, with easy access to Trail 774, just 5 minutes away. The cabin itself was cozy and well-equipped; one could easily sleep 8 with a warm fireplace that made chilly nights feel extra comfortable. We especially loved the breathtaking views of the snow-covered lake. The location was secluded yet accessible, providing a great balance of privacy and convenience. Whether sitting by the fire or riding nearby snowmobile trails, every moment was special. We would highly recommend this cabin to anyone looking for a charming winter snowmobiling adventure.

Relaxing!

Great location. We spent a fun week at this lakeside cabin. We enjoyed the water, the fishing, and the trails. The owner and his family were very nice. The cabin did have a lot of spiders, which our girls didn't like.

Not what we expected!!!

The fireplace was nice. The washer and dryer worked refrigerator and stove worked. 3 of the 5 beds had mouse droppings between the sheets. The king bed had a spot on the sheet, that washed out when we washed it, so obviously those sheets had not been washed from the previous guests. been w

Waquas lake stay June 15 to 22, 2024

The cottage was a rustic dwelling that was very peaceful and off the beaten path on a calm and tranquil lake. Plenty of room for five adults Bedrooms, kitchen and living area was large enough for our group. I especially liked the deck facing the lake for reading and relaxing. I would recommend adding some additional screens to the windows that did not have screens for summer ventilation.

Quiet and Secluded but close to town

This place is SO cozy! It had everything we needed for the weekend and as a family of 6, that could sound like a lot. It slept everyone comfortably and had plenty of space on the property for our 4 older children to wander. I can't say enough good things about the owner and the property so I will just say book the stay. You won't be disappointed!

Quiet cabin on a small lake

Our boys had a 3 on 3 tournament and they wanted something to do in their down time so they wanted fishing. They had a great time and the property owners were great and very helpful, especially when my son hooked his finger good and needed a decent pair of snips to cut the hook, and even though we woke them up for help- they were so kind. The cabin was older and outdated, not sure if there was a way to lock up the cabin… The cabin needs thicker window curtains for privacy. It had plenty of room and a grill to use kitchen had sufficient kitchenware to use.. Our kids enjoyed themselves, I would probably stay again if I find myself in Gaylord in the future. Location was great, they had boats to use, kayaks, row boats, and paddle boats.

We were there for 3 days, I wanted a real cabin feel and this is what we had, manager was very nice.

View was great, cabin was exactly that a log cabin, looks like he in the process of making improvements and has a good start on it. Everything worked and water access was nice to have, we enjoyed our stay even though the weather didn't make it easy lol Only little things I would improve is making sure the dishes and silverware do not look dirty, and asking the guests to do so much cleaning after charging $80 for cleaning seems a bit counter productive for business, if your asking guests to divide and take out the trash, wash the towels and wrap up the bed clothes charge less for cleaning. I am not complaining here, I would just like to see these things change if we are gonna come back in the future. Over all its good place to stay, just wash the silverware before using it.

Right for the price

Rokko was kind and inviting. Briefly showed us around the cabin and property and then provided us privacy the rest of our stay. The Cabin itself was not as private as I was expecting, right next door to property owners with a few other cabins on site. Cabin wasn’t as clean as it could have been, but wasn’t horrible. Cozy enough and beds were comfortable. Handbook asked for us to do our dishes, however, there was no dish soap or sponges provided. Did the best I could with hand soap, but I questioned the cleanliness of the dishes I was using because of this. Property itself was also a bit “messy” with lots of random things lying around. Trails and pond with canoe access was a perk. Peaceful and pretty. Was just right for the price and close to all the outdoor recreation sites we wanted to explore.

Needs major updates

Go elsewhere if you are looking for a swimming beach, there also was no dock. It was advertised to have Wi-Fi but that never worked. There is also a lot of water damage. There was a tarp over the roof on the right side of the cabin, the bathroom floor was tilting downward with a lot of mold. There were no window coverings in the bathroom which left open view to the trailer parked next door. We noticed the box spring cover was covered with mold in the bedroom that is a three season room my son was staying in.

Disappponting

The location and area are beautiful but the cabin is run down and filthy. Mouse droppings on kitchen counter, dirty rugs in kitchen and bathroom, dried food on fridge shelves from prior guests, broken faucets in bathroom shower and sink. The living room carpet smells like urine as does one of the chairs and the couch is broke down and filthy. Our bed in master bedroom sunk in the middle, the mattress pad was disgusting, hardly any hangers in closet and no ironing board for iron. There was laundry left in both washer and dryer from prior stay. Not sure what's in the fireplace but we heard rustling in there numerous times. Poor internet. What I thought would be a great getaway in a cozy little cabin turned out to be a big disappointment. We left 2 days early. I wish I would have spent my money elsewhere.

The property was very quiet and owner was helpful and friendly when arriving. It was kind of weird that the owners house is about 10 feet away from the rental cabin. The outside area/grounds were very messy - old vehicles, sofa, trash, kids toys everywhere. The first night we were there it began to rain during the night and then we heard dripping the roof was leaking in several spots in the master bedroom. We were told just to put bowls under it. it rained for 2 days. We looked outside and noticed the roof was not even shingled/completed and in one of the area that it was leaking had been leaking previously because it had black mold on the ceiling and the ceiling was sagging there. There were a few other spots in the ceiling that were sagging as well in the living area. Kitchen has limited items to use there was not even a can opener. The beds were comfortable and the view from the deck across the lake was very nice. You do have to travel on a dirt road to get to the property.
