“Booked a valley castle room w king bed for one night in late Sep. Room was very clean with comfy n up to date decor. Room was big enough and soundproof quality was good. Big garden surrounded hotel n we took a pleasant walk the next day. Should have stayed for one or two nights so as to enjoy swimming pool and other facilities. The historical building was well maintained. Very pleasant stay ”

“Unfortunately the hotel had some problems in the kitchen which impacted very badly on the menu for dinner, the breakfast, service (so slow) and noise. It would have been better to fix the problems before reopening or to have had the courtesy to let us know in advance what the situation was. I would have stayed somewhere else. Extremely disappointing as I’ve had lovely stays here in the past. ”

“This is a busy hotel on Sunday’s but has plenty of parking. The staff are exceptional and room 201 with a tub in the window is perfect for a romantic weekend.
The hotel is a short walk from the Rock Inn and the moor.
The food in the bar and main restaurant is varied and delicious with breakfast being served in the conservatory.
The bus service to Widecombe in the moor is very limited and needs to be considered if you intend to visit the area.
Overall a very pleasant stay. ”

“Absolutely fabulous few days away. This is a real gem of a hotel. Quiet and secluded but a real joy to experience. The staff are so helpful and genuine (Rosie, Sharon and Oliver deserve medals)
There was plenty of choice for breakfast, the cooked breakfast was tasty and well presented.
The evening dinner menu and quality of food was 10/10. I think it could be even better with a slightly extended menu.

The room was perfect and loved wandering through the gardens and nearby walks despite the weather. Cosy evening by the fireplace, red wine and board games. The Christmas decorations were tasteful and festive.

“Simply perfect for a memorable stay in the heart of Dartmoor. We hadn't planned to stay until a few days before hand, but having seen the fantastic weather forecast decided to book (initially) a 1-night stopover on our way from Shropshire to Looe in Cornwall.
