“Dianne went out of her way to be helpful at all steps of our stay. Great parking facilities, great shower, comfy bed. Everything needed was provided and well thought through. We were able to arrange to collect the keys early as we were due at a wedding and Dianne went out of her way to help us arrange a taxi booking to and from the venue nearby. Breakfast was varied and plentiful.”

“Got there at 8:15pm booked in and got shown to our rooms, once we put our stuff down we went down stairs to get a drink and order some food, we ordered our drink and asked for menus, we were told it had been too busy and we couldn’t get food. After a moan they apologised and brought us menus we ordered for a chicken burger and two steak pies. After an hour to food came out the chicken in the burger was dry but edible, the same can’t be said for the pies both pies smelt horrible once opened and……

“Staff were excellent and so helpful. Food and breakfast service was first class. The bathrrom was very modern clean and well kept. The carpet was stained and did have a little fusty smell however the overall experience and amenties were good in the room. The tea caddy table did need to be bigger was difficult to make drink on there. ”

“Quirky room, room 3 with a low ceiling. Staff obviously mindful of the hot weather placed a fan in the room, really appreciated, great cooked breakfast in the morning and very good value for what we needed. We did have 1 very minor issue which we passed on, so hopefully that can be addressed for the future. Overall a resnable stay and adequate for or needs, the cooked breakfast stood out as the USP.”

“Quirky place to stay! Lovely big room for our family of four, in peaceful surroundings next to a ruined castle and 10 minutes from Hadrians Wall! Friendly staff and nice home cooked food for dinner and breakfast!”

“The overall status of the hotel is nice, we arrived quite later at 1:00am, but the housekeeping starts knocking doors from 9:30 all the way to 10:40 (about 4 times) to ask people to check out... they really did what their boss told...”

“What a find this place was. We needed somewhere to stay and shelter from Storm Dave rather than risk the campervan. We were lucky enough to find the family room at the String of Horses. Amazing food in the pub, amazing and super friendly staff, especially the lady who sorted out brownie pieces for my ten year old rather than the Sundae dessert version. The breakfast in the morning, ordered from a menu rather than buffet was delicious with great options. Added bonus was how close the……
