We checked-in at about 4 A.M. 26th DEC and we were very very tired after 14 hour from Tokyo to London & transit + 41/2 flight to Istanbul as our BA flight arrived at 27th DEC 13.45A.M. No chauffeur car to welcomed us at Airport for some unknown reason. The worst thing for our room#404 door lock will not lock from inside.I had to return to check-in and ask for a new room as Safety & Security is paramount & very important in foreign hotel. The night manager said tomorrow. We were in no state to argue as we were too fatigued to argue by then. Your Guest Relations Manager Burhan Gursoy left a welcome message for us and I complained about the DOOR LOCK! I believe this is ILLEGAL in UK & Europe & Japan NOT to have a "Proper safe & secure lock in your room". We had to worry every time even when there was cleaner's noise hoovering the rooms on our floor rooms. We stayed Carina Gold 26th-29th December 2025. The Manager promised that he will move us to another room on the 2nd night. On 28th December we came back very cold drenched in rain at 1800 from Topkapi Palace. I virtually had to drag the night manager to see for himself our unlockable door for room #404. There was no word of offering about moving to a new room.By that time all we wanted a hot shower to recover. On 29th when we checked out, I again complained to Guest Relations Manager Burhan Gursoy about the lock. I still cannot understand why they gave the unusable room for a couple travelling all the way from Tokyo! Terrible!

We loved our stay at this hotel. It was very clean and spacious. The breakfast was great and the location was excellent, just a short walk from the main attractions and the tram stop is very close. What made is extra special was the staff! They were all very professional, had excellent recommendations and went out of their way to assist us with whatever we needed. We will definitely be returning.

Hotel was clean, was in a wonderful location, and the staff was helpful (although English challenged). Hotel was quiet and very clean. Surrounded by wonderful restaurants. Breakfast was extensive and although not to OUR tastes was well liked by all other guests. Had a heating problem with our room which was fixed by the next night. Would certainly stay again. Suggestion: Do NOT book the night dinner cruise on the Bospherous. Bad food but good entertainment. Expensive. Take a day cruise instead. We booked an official Turkish guide through the hotel and were very satisfied with him and official Turkish guides are highly regulated and VERY knowledgable. In all of our travels on the Med. we liked Istanbul the best over Rome, Barcelona, Lisbon (although all of those are world class cities). NOTE: Change money in Turkey. Evidently everybody does and the exchange rates are MUCH better than we got with our bank and there appear to be currency exchange kiosks with 4 on every block. Almost everybody LOVES dollars or Euros but carefully note the exchange rate that merchants are giving. Turkey appears to be a bargaining culture and tips are appreciated although not expected. We found Turkish merchants to be persistent but NOT objectionable. Turkey is NOT a touching culture. Arrange airport pickup through the hotel. The "new" Istanbul airport is large and modern with a LOT of walking and poor English signage. Note that Turkey is not an EU country with significant passport procedure

Recently stayed for 4 nights with my family. Location is amazing in the heart of sultanhamet. Rooms were squeaky clean, and staff were always pleasant and courteous. A downside was I had a brick wall outside my window and the walls are not so soundproof, for me it wasnt much of an issue as we spent the whole day out and only came back to sleep and rest. The staff and their customer service really makes up for any shortfalls. A special Thank You to Burhan, amazing customer service skills I felt like I was in a 5* environment from check in to check out, he was extremely attentive and made us feel welcomed. Will definitely stay at carina gold again.

The room was clean and the bed was comfortable (although the waterproof mattress pad was not comfortable!). Great staff, very helpful. Very nice breakfast, and housekeeping was also good. I thought it would be more quiet at night but if you’re on the street side, there is noisy traffic all night so I recommend asking for a room on the side of the hotel away from the street.
