We stayed 4 nights at Hillside Cottage.

We stayed 4 nights at Hillside Cottage. The cottage is located in a quiet position about 30 minutes walk to Derwent Water. Perfect for leaving the car behind in the private drive. The cottage is very well presented and has everything you need for a pleasant stay. Kitchen very well equipped and nice to have a full size under counter freezer, perfect for longer stays. Washing machine, with airers supplied to dry clothes inside if the weather is bad. Washing line outside (pegs supplied) if the weather is dry. Washer had facility to dry clothes but we didn’t use this. Beautiful large lounge with separate dining area..Kingsize bed was very comfy but can’t comment on the singles or bunk beds because they weren’t used. Lovely oak bedroom furniture. The beautiful views out the windows are definitely worth a mention. One thing to point out for future visitors is that although the property has 2 toilets, there is no sink in the second one. For a family of 6 staying this could be more of a problem than it was for just the two of us. Also my husband felt he couldn’t get the shower to run warm enough, although the temperature was absolutely fine for me. All down to personal preference and not a criticism. We would definitely book the cottage again for future visits to Keswick.

Superb holiday home with virtually everything you need.

Superb holiday home with virtually everything you need. The layout is great and our toddler enjoyed playing in the large lounge and dining area where we could keep an eye on her through the glass windows in the downstairs doors. We appreciated the books for babies and young children and lake district guides for adults. The welcome goodies were a nice touch. Good value for money which is not usually the case with holiday lets in Keswick! There are some issues worth mentioning... Firstly, the garage in which we intended to leave our babies pushchair was thick with cobwebs and plants growing through the roof and full of old furniture so the idea of leaving bikes etc is just not feasible, we opted to fold the pushchair and leave it in the car. The garden furniture was old and dirty and the beer garden bench was overgrown with plants meaning we could not sit outside. The garden needs some tlc and the lawn needs mowing properly. In the house there were a myriad of cleaning sprays and oddly, dishwasher tablets but no washing powder, no handwash in the bathroom. Several bulbs had gone and there were no replacement bulbs in the house. The ceilings and walls had not been cleaned for some time and as a result there was a build up of cobwebs which I ended up cleaning although the rest of the house was very clean it has to be said. All in all the value for money, amenities and location with views of Blencathra from the master bedroom make this a very good choice for holidaymakers heading to Keswick.

Lovely house in a beautiful location

The place was clean, well decorated and well furnished. Although the kitchen was a little small and dark (I understand refurbishment of the kitchen is planned), I would still highly recommend to the property to others.

Hillside cottage is a lovely spacious, comfortable, cosy home. We loved the décor. We enjoyed using the conservatory looking out on the beautiful garden and views of Latrigg. The views from the bedrooms are also stunning. The Pantry is a wonderful little space too. When we arrived the road works in Keswick had just begun (and will continue until approx. Christmas). This means that at the moment, you can't catch the bus into Keswick from the bus stop at the end of the road outside the cottage. However we found that if we caught the 555 bus at Keswick bus station, it would stop drop us at the stop outside the cottage, which was very useful for getting back from Keswick. Hillside Cottage is in a wonderful location just outside of Keswick but still with wonderful views of the surrounding mountains. The house is very well equipped, clean and very homely. There is plenty of space to relax downstairs and the bedrooms are all a very good size. We would have no hesitation in returning for another holiday. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

We were delighted with Hillside cottage, it was very comfortable and well equipped with extras including books, board games and DVDs to make our stay enjoyable. There was plenty of hot water, comfortable beds and a lovely garden. I would highly recommend this property which is an easy stroll into Keswick, on a bus route and with plenty of walks within easy reach.

Excellent cottage, newly refurbished.

Excellent cottage, newly refurbished. Very comfortable and well equipped. Bedrooms well sized and new, comfortable mattresses. Nice touches from the owners with coffee, tea, bottle of wine. But also the stuff that makes going away easier and not an exercise in taking half your home with you - loo roll, tea towel, dish cloth, washing up liquid etc. Easy parking and not too much of a walk into town and, if the weather is kind, it's a nice walk along the old railway line. Highly recommended.
