Lovely hotel and bar. Friendly staff from the moment I arrived. The room was clean, with everything you needed, and with a great view too. The food was excellent in the restaurant, and breakfast, with table service, was too. Definitely recommend.

What a great place to stay. The staff are fantastic. The food is really good and reasonably priced. The location is very central to all the lakes district activities. Can’t recommend the Kings Head highly enough.

Really lovely venue. Clean, spacious and attentive staff. They went out of their way to help! The food was delicious- we had the breakfast and, even as a big eater, I had to leave some of the full veggie english (amazing sausages!)! The pancakes were great too! We also used the packed lunch making facility for our climb to Helvellyn (which you can do from the hotel!) and this was also really nice. Would highly recommend. The only thing that would improve the hotel for me would be a dry room for wet hiking gear!

Whilst my room was small, it had all I needed. The highlight was the staff: reception and bar/restaurant staff were excellent. Polite, attentive, efficient. Breakfast was very good with a wide choice. The restaurant menu for dinner was ok but sometimes a wider simpler choice would have been nice.

Very clean, with very courteous staff. It's an old roadside inn, so there's no air conditioning and lots of traffic noise, which I struggled with. My single room had everything I needed, except a wardrobe. A couple of hooks on the doors would have helped enormously, as I had nowhere to hang my dresses during my stay.

Stayed with my son overnight on our trip to climb Helwellyn. Did the climb prior to checking in, as check in was from 3pm. Asked in advance if we could use the car park upon our arrival in the morning & it was no problem. Once we checked in, the room was good with a modern ensuite, ironing board, hair-dryer and coffee facilities. All the staff were friendly with a nicely stocked bar and it was fine to book a table for our evening meal. The menu had a good choice of meat and vegetarian options. We had the burger and the homemade steak pudding, which were both filling and tasty. Just what we needed after a strenuous day climbing. Decent night's sleep, a bit of traffic noise but it is the main route throught the centre of the Lake District, so not unexpected. We left early, so didn't have breakfast so can't comment on that. Would we return? Yes.
