Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service, amenities
The room was spotless, you can tell it was recently renovated. The amenities were amazing, the beds were super comfortable and we had one of the best sleeps we’ve ever had at a hotel.
The breakfast the next day was phenomenal, there is good choice. We went for the vegetarian breakfast and those veggie sausages were top class! Kids also loved the pancakes.
All in all a very pleasant stay, the finishing touches on the refurbishment are all high quality, and the food is clearly sourced from the very best and most delicious ingredients.
Thank you for an amazing stay.
Lovely place nice friendly staff and good food. Decor has been done tastefully and in keeping with the age of the building
Recommend to anyone who fancied something not a large chain hotel

But, please try to mention before the hotel checkout time and the extra charges which apply.
Lovely hotel. Will say before all else - the food was amazing! Breakfast was brilliant but we also ate in the restaurant the night of and this was delicious. Would drive 1.5hours to come back again! Otherwise the hotel seems to be a little hidden gem. Staff very welcoming to us (and 2 under twos - always a challenge). Very accommodating, great communication and friendly. Hotel itself situated nicely near local castle to explore and easy footpath walks behind the hotel into the hills/by a little stream. Room was spacious, clean with a few nice extra touches like hot choco etc which are always welcome. Would come back.
First room we were booked into bore little resemblance to the one we booked in the photo. We paid for an upgrade to a superior room and was very happy with the standard of accommodation - well worth the extra money. It was well decorated, comfortable and very clean. Breakfast was a hit and miss affair. My eggs royale was delicious whilst my wife's vegetarian 'full English' was too dry from being hot held for a while. It's worth staying here if you are not looking for vibrant nightlife, but prefer high standards and a good nights sleep instead.
My son and I were on a cycling trip from Liverpool to Durham. Of all the hotels we stayed in on the way, this was head and shoulders above the rest. They were welcoming, dealt with our bikes quickly and safely. The room was amazing with the attention to detail was remarkable, with heating rails, effective hot water mixers, iron. It was a real restful place for a traveller. The restaurant in the evening was to an exceptionally high standard, you could see that the owners were hands on, and keen to ensure all your needs were met. Breakfast was exceptional with quick orders with a buffet also. The breakfast lady was so friendly and helped us in advising a bike route which turned out to be brilliant. I can’t think of anymore that could be done. Well organized hotel, attentive and responsive. I will definitely be coming back with my wife and kids back to this place to use as a base to do walks in the beautiful area. PS local shop opposite had everything you would need.
Lovely hotel with attentive and friendly staff, a very comfortable room and excellent breakfast food (freshly cooked with a choice of hot options); evening meal also excellent, well worth the price. No road noise, plenty of parking. Be sure to say if you need a mobility friendly room. Nice cafes, pubs, shops in nearby Kirkby Stephen.
Comfortable, Excellent Location - just needs footf
Very handy position on the A66, but quiet. Bar prices inline with other establishments. Food excellent but pricey.
Comfortable room, and Staff excellent - considering the one young man was doing everything. Bar, Food, Reception etc
A bit concerning we appeared to be the only 'Guests' staying?
A lovely hotel with friendly staff. The hotel was quiet when we were there but we made very welcome and there were some lovely extras in the room. The towels were very fluffy!!
Highly recommend
Jättefint rum. God mat! Personalen är enastående vänliga och omtänksamma. Närheten till Yorkshire dales är suverän. Kan verkligen rekommendera det här hotellet.
