What a sad way to end a romance package with my girlfriend.
I stayed at the W Ko Samui for three nights as part of a package. On day two I got severe food poisoning from a papaya salad cooking class that was included in our package — high fever, couldn’t keep anything down, completely bedridden.
When my checkout day came I was in no condition to travel. I called management and asked if I could stay one additional night at a reduced rate given the circumstances. They quoted me a rate higher than what I had originally paid. The hotel was nearly empty. I explained the situation and how unreasonable it felt. They didn’t care. Because I was genuinely too sick to move to another property, I had no choice but to pay it.
I’ve spent the last four months traveling throughout Asia and have stayed at numerous Marriott and Ritz-Carlton properties over the years. This was without question the worst customer service experience of the entire trip. Not a single gesture of goodwill — no acknowledgment that their cooking class made me ill, no flexibility, nothing.
At this level of hospitality there is no shortage of competition. They have lost all of my future business, and I’d encourage anyone considering this property to keep that in mind.

Probably the best Thai food we have ever had in the upstairs restaurant. The breakfast buffet is only second to Mandarin Oriental. All in all this place is value for money.

Exceptional service
We had a wonderful time although some days were rainy.
Service was exceptional, the room was big and indulging, the gym was great, and we were happy that the hotel's chef accommodated our food requirements as vegans.

It was my second time staying at W Koh Samui since my honeymoon 10 years back - this time, with my daughter as well. Staffs were super fantastic and supportive and overall quality of facilities was also great. I would absolutely stay again when I visit Koh Samui in near future. Highly recommended for family vacation, honeymoon or short getaway with your friends.
W’s airport transfer sent us to a wrong hotel which wasted 45min of our valuable time. Then we both got food poisoning at Nomu restaurant. We ended spent entire vacation in our room. This is a big disappointment as we looked forward to this Wedding Anniversary celebration. W Samui got a lot of work to do regarding the basic stuff like food and beverage and services.

We booked this hotel for my wife's birthday,
we paid thousands of dollars in advance (~8K $), a week before our holiday we had a tragedy in our family ( my brother in law had passed away from a sudden illness ).
I cancelled my vacation and ask the hotel to consider the family tragedy and refund my vacation or at least reschedule it.
ooh ,they used very polite language but bluntly refused to give me any of my money back.
So they might be a Fancey hotel but with zero compassion and all their fancy language is a façade to their greed.

W not as wonderful
Great view of the beach, great BF selection and nice private pool villa. We had inclusive package of cocktails, spa, and float me up! However, was a bit disappointed with the reception as our hostess Ammie just left us at the hot not air conditioned lobby without giving us a word on how long we have to wait! She wasn’t informative about the hotel activities.
We stayed at a jungle view villa:The tub tap water was yellow with sand, which wasn’t cleaned the next day! This is not acceptable for five star W resorts! This not our first W stay. Too bad for the little details not cared for~ .

NOT A 5 STAR RESORT
The W Koh Samui is nowhere near a real 5-star hotel. Service is basically non-existent, management is poor, and the facilities do not match the price they charge.
On the beach, there is no one to assist you: no staff to hand out towels, no one taking food or drink orders, nothing resembling proper luxury service. Breakfast is chaotic — far too few tables for the number of guests, and most mornings we couldn’t even find a place to sit. The same issue happens at the pool: it is very small with a ridiculous number of sunbeds compared to the number of rooms. With two children, we often ended up without a single sunbed available.
Activities are also poorly handled: we wanted to rent a kayak, but only one was working while all the others were broken. We tried to book a table at the Japanese restaurant inside the resort and they couldn’t even accommodate us, another sign of bad organization.
Overall, the service is terrible, far from what you expect from a 5-star property. The only positive note is the girl at reception, who was helpful and genuinely kind. Apart from her, the entire place feels more like a mediocre 4-star at best.
I would not recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a true luxury experience — it simply doesn’t deliver.
