Stunning space and views

We loved the atmospheric and very comfortable space, especially the fireplace and wood burner since it was a bit chilly in early April. We’re a bit sad that it wasn’t warmer so we could spend more time in the beautiful outdoor space and enjoy the gorgeous pool.

Absolutely magical

My family stayed here this summer (Aug 2017) for a week. We were 6 adults and 2 young children. I cannot express how lovely this house is in a magical town. The views are amazing, the pool and outside lovely with a nice deck, covered dining area and small grassed area for kids to play. The village is small with a restaurant and bar but it means that you do not feel rushed, you are forced to relax. One of the best rentals we have ever had. Joao is so helpful and responsive. We cannot wait to go back. We are already missing the magic that is the house in Talasnal.

Magical Refuge in the Hills

Our family of four’s week-long stay in this beautifully restored shist house was perfect. João is a gracious, responsive and informative host, and his place, which sits perched on a hill within an ancient stone village, is a gem of contemporary/rustic interiors and thoughtful details. Great hiking throughout these hills with well marked trails and lots of interesting sights and stopovers along the way. Importantly, this valley was untouched by the ravaging fires of adjoining areas. Food shopping convenient 20 minutes down the hill in Lousã. One note: don’t expect broadband as internet has to squeak through a cellular modem in this remote hideaway...spend time together instead of surfing!

Great location for a hiking adventure

The house is a beautifully redone schist structure in the center of Talasnal. All the comforts of home; nicely stocked kitchen, great fireplace (heated the whole house), comfortable beds, and nice hot showers. Great hikes just walking out the front door…although we did get lost the first day. Haha. Both Joao and Alda were super responsive and so helpful. Even offering to pick us up in Candal after our very long misplaced hike. Definitely purchase any supplies before arriving as the tiny Mercado in Talasnal has only the very basics of milk and eggs. Oh and chocolate and wine. Being in the off season only a couple of restaurants are open. We had such an awesome stay, would like to have stayed longer. Yes, there are stairs in the house. As advertised it is three levels. Kitchen is downstairs, living room and one bedroom on the main level, and two bedrooms upstairs. A great space and lovely stay!

My best VRBO experience!

The house was well furnished/equipped with quality everything. No shortage of hot water. Beds and bedding were more than comfortable. We were not disappointed with anything (and my husband can usually find something wrong with anything and everything). All of my prior VRBRO experience has been that the pictures and the list of amenities are overstated AND over rated. Not in this case. Joao gave us great recommendations for dinner and helped us make the reservations, which was especially appreciated since we do not speak Portuguese. We would rent again from Joao again in a heartbeat! Tips for future visitors: If you will be there for more than 2 days/nights and/or you want to cook any of your own meals, stop at a grocery store in Lousa before heading up the road to Talasnal because the road is extremely windy and narrow and you will not want to go back down the mountain just to go to the grocery store unless you really have to. The road is very narrow and does not comfortably fit 2 cars. In addition, there really is no shoulder on either side of the road - so the drive up can be nerve rattling. However, this should not be a deterrent.

Unsuitable for seniors

Interesting location. Property ok for campers, but for seniors presents too many challenges: many steps from parking lot to house and within home requiring one to heft ones luggage. One double room has uncomfortable bed, the other too small for two people and luggage. Entry to pool difficult with only one deep step. No rail on stairs, that were open on one side Found it too difficult so left after one day of planned four day visit - making this an expensive stay

Magical

Don't let the winding road up to Tasnal worry you. Once you arrive you find yourself in this small enchanting village with views for days! We enjoyed just basking in the sun at the pool each day. The small restaurant in the village was perfect for a light lunch and the house is well stocked with all you might need to cook at home! Had a fantastic stay!

A aldeia do Talasnal é um local especial que é obrigatório conhecer. O alojamento que seleccionamos é uma simbiose perfeita entre conforto, funcionalidade e apurado sentido estético. Para tornar o quadro ainda mais idílico o enquadramento paisagistico é perfeito, potenciando o descanso e obrigando-nos a abrandar e a dedicar tempo a saborear a vida. Adoramos o espaço, ideal para familias conjugando o usufruto das áreas interiores com espaços exteriores apelativos e muito prazerosos. Excelente apoio e absoluta disponibilidade por parte do proprietário em validar se tudo estava a correr bem ou se era necessário algo sempre com uma extrema simpatia e profissionalismo. Ficamos fãs e certamente ue iremos regressar!!!!! Muito obrigado por tudo caro João Pedro.

Merveilleux !

Magnifique maison décorée avec goût et passion par João Pedro et située dans un splendide village. Tout est vraiment parfait jusqu'à la vue et la piscine. De belles balades sont possibles au départ de la maison. João Pedro est extrêmement réactif et symapthique. A recommander sans réserve.

Fantastic home, in a fantastic area !

It’s been a pleasure to stay a few days in Joao’s casa ! The house has a unique point of view on the mountains, offering breathtaking sunsets. The house itself is very well designed and very well equipped. We feel at home. The communication with Joao has been very easy from the beginning. Maybe one thing to know is that you need to come with your groceries as there is no food shop around. Thank you very much Joao for everything ! We had a wonderful time in your home.

A nossa experiência não podia ter sido melhor, sentir a natureza viva dentro e fora de casa. A casa é extremamente confortável, com tudo o que é preciso para umas férias plenas de conforto e aventura. A gentileza do proprietário e das pessoas que vivem aquela aldeia diariamente fizeram toda a diferença e tornaram esta experiência ainda mais enriquecedora. Desde os adultos à criança, todos ficaram felizes com a experiência e com vontade de voltar. Já há algum tempo que tínhamos curiosidade de ficar numa aldeia de xisto, o talasnal foi a nossa opção para esta viagem e a casa escolhida foi uma excelente opção. Estamos muito gratos por toda a experiência.

Amazing Schist Village

Checking in ran smoothly, João responded very quickly to all my questions. The Village of Talasnal and the house were utterly amazing. The beds were very comfortable, lots of towels, very well equipped kitchen, and a great place to grill. From the deck there was a fabulous view. It was so quiet!!! Everything was absolutely lovely.

Fantastic lodging for active touring in Portugal!

Just got back from 2 weeks at Casa do Talasnal, and we were absolutely thrilled and thoroughly enjoyed the location, the house, the pool, and João’s kind hospitality. We were 2 couples on our first trip to Portugal, and João and Elsa received us with genuine affection. This place is beautiful and so well appointed, nothing was amiss. Talasnal is a beautiful village in the hills above Lousã, and there is much to be discovered there but if you’re willing to do some driving as we were, the whole of central and northern Portugal is within reach for day trips. We mixed touring with local activities, we can also recommend the local restaurants and bars. João was also available to cater to us as needed, we highly recommend Casa do Talasnal and doing business with João, great setup and service, Thank You!

The property is in an amazing remote village and we loved our stay.

The house was great for three couples. The kitchen was very well appointed and we loved having some meals there. There are several amazing hiking trails right outside the house.

Beautiful place to rest! //un endroit splendide !!

We spent a week in Joao 's house with my family. The place is wonderful,the landscape and surrounding is magic.Concerning the house ,it is very well equipped and the decoration is lovely and very good quality of bed and furniture.In fact,you feel like at home! We are used to rent houses and this was the best we never had rent! The house is extremely clean and cosy.Thus ,you can go there you won't be disappointed and the photos are less than reality.Joao and his wife welcomed us very friendly and are very available if you need anything.Thank you very much for this week of rest and peace. Cette maison est formidable,tout est parfait,vous pouvez la réserver sans hésitation !les propriétaires sont adorables and extrêmement disponibles en cas de besoin.Un endroit merveilleux en pleine nature,exceptionnel !!

C'EST À COUPER LE SOUFFLE!

Tous âgés de 60 ans et plus, nous pensions avoir tout vu... mais non! Grands voyageurs que nous sommes, avons trouvé niché dans le fin fond d'une montagne, un petit village tout construit en pierres de schiste, "Talasnal", à 12 km de Lousã au Portugal. Elsa et João , propriétaires tout à fait charmants, nous accueillent dans leur maison avec un bon porto, des raisins et un gâteau typiquement de la place. Ce court séjour ( 5 jours) nous fait découvrir ce charmant village. Quel contraste entre l'aspect extérieur ( maison en pierres datant de plus de cent ans) et l'intérieur aux commodités modernes. Cette maison, munie d'une piscine creusée avec vue sur les montagnes et couchers de soleil, nous coupe le souffle. Dans ce petit village, on y retrouve un restaurant " Le Ti-Lena" à la cuisine typiquement portugaise, un bar " o Curral" ( aux mini bouteilles de bières Sagres 20cl et attention à votre tête en y entrant) avec patio extérieur avec vue sur les montagnes et quelques boutiques. Dans notre vie, ce fut un des moments des plus marquants, impressionnants et excitants. C'est à couper le souffle! 12/10 Michel, Andrée, Louis et Sylvie

Superb house in a wonderful environment

Our stay in Talasnal was fantastic. The hospitality of João and Elsa is out of the ordinary (homemade cake, bottle of Porto on our arrival). Their house is well equipped to make us feel at home and is perfectly maintained. The small shale houses make us feel like a hundred years back with the thick walls and narrow streets. But the house contains all the modern facilities with a nice atmosphere of coziness. This place is for nature lovers who like quietness and fantastic views.
