「The grounds are beautiful and the facility was clean and well-kept. Staff members were pleasant. We would actually consider staying there in a different room but the white cabin with the thatched roof was awkward and uncomfortable to the point that we left after one night even though we knew we wouldn't get a refund. You can tell from the photos that some of the description is inaccurate (It's just one bedroom and doesn't have a private pool though there is one pool for all guests to share.) but...

We would have arrived late for check-in so they assisted us with the security giving us the keys and everything. The pool was really clean and nice. I did not realize that the rooms did not have A/C, so things were hot the first night (reception closed at 8:00), but they were able to get me another fan the second night l, which made things better. Overall, we really enjoyed the stay which included access to a local swimming hole which was very refreshing. 「Definitely an older property but nicely redone. You might be lucky to find one staff person on duty at any given time in case you need anything, otherwise you're on your own. While I can appreciate a clean smelling room, the smell of pinesol or fabuloso was so strong that I had a headache, and my clothes reeked of it after just 2 nights. Plenty of potential of there were some minor improvements. Great location.」

「The Hotel Ballena Ray is a gem. While the overall vibe is laid back, the rooms are perfect for a long stay with kitchenette and other basic amenities. The breakfast is especially wonderful as is the staff. And the pool, though small, is wonderful and has a bar open in the late afternoon and evening. You can swim until 9PM, which is a nice bonus after a long day exploring the surrounding areas of Uvita, Ballena Marine National Park (5 minute walk from the property) and the surrounding areas....
