We went to ride the train and found a heavenly oasis.
I’ve been to many places that promise solitude but you never really feel it, you DEFINITELY will here. So quiet, so beautiful. I will definitely come back if nothing else just to stay here.

Beautiful stay at this lovely Cottage
We recently stayed at this Cottage in early Springtime when the TX mountain laurel were in bloom. It’s beautiful and the owners have every detail covered for a wonderful stay. Thank you and we are looking forward to another time.

Sweet and fun cottage
Bird Cottage is adorable and the owners are friendly. It’s located on their main home property but we never felt uncomfortable. They are very welcoming. Our kids played ball in the yard, fished the lake, took out the boat and fed the chickens. The cottage is clean and well stocked. The beds are comfy too! Excellent place to stay especially if you’re going to the Texas Railroad.

Just Perfect for Thanksgiving!
My two adult children stayed with us here for Thanksgiving and it was wonderful. The cottage is simply darling and has everything we needed. The kitchen is amply supplied, the living area cozy and comfortable; and we loved using the fireplace that cold weekend. Beds are very comfortable and all the decorative bird touches to make it truly Bird Cottage were charming. It is set on a gorgeous piece of property that is delightful to roam. Our hosts were so welcoming and helpful, even when we had a medical emergency. Also very close to the Texas State Railroad which was so convenient Polar Express was AMAZING . Small note: The spiral staircase to the upstairs sleeping soft is quite small and tricky, but even my hefty adult son managed it. Many thanks to our hosts for a tour of the property and a delightful stay.

This home is well taken care of by the couple who actually built it for their own use.They have made a lovely property for guests to visit and share its amenities. Our grandkids loved the pond and visiting their chicken coop.

Beautiful Storybook Cottage
My husband, our boys (5 & 11), and I stayed at this beautiful cottage for our trip to the Polar Express train ride (which is conveniently less than 5 mins away), and had a wonderful time! This cottage reminded me of something you would have found in a storybook! It was just perfect and lovely. The pictures show just the way it is. The cottage was clean and had everything we needed to cook meals. Roland and Susan were such a pleasure to meet and chat with. I thank them for sharing such a wonderful place with others! What a blessing! We enjoyed walking around the estate and our boys got to enjoy the paddle boat. And our boys loved loved the the spiral staircase and the loft bedroom! The first floor bedroom, I didn’t notice in the pics, but the canopy bed frame has beautiful cast iron birds, such a beautiful detail!! All beds were comfy. The bathroom had a towel warmer, nice touch! And we had freshly baked banana muffins on our arrival. I could really go on and on about this beautiful place, but it should be experienced in person! Fall colors were absolutely stunning in this area of Texas, best I’ve seen in the state! We will return :)

PERFECT CABIN!!!!
The cabin was perfect in every way and the property was absolutely breathtaking! Roland and Susan greeted me upon arrival and went above and beyond to make my stay enjoyable. They even added little sweet touches like mini Bundt cakes and orange juice, so I had breakfast the next morning. The cabin is adorable and has some extra plush amenities such as a resort style extra-large stone shower and towel warmer. There is a large covered porch that wraps around the cabin so you can sit and look at the extremely well maintained landscape to the front and side of the cabin and the beautiful white cows on the back side. Susan and Roland allowed me to roam around the property so I walked down to the lake on both days I was there. It was so peaceful and calming. The lake is only a 3 minute walk from the cabin and you can walk through the shade trees and landscape so it truly felt as though I was at a resort but all by myself as it is very private. I went to Palestine for a family wedding and had never thought of going back but after meeting Susan and Roland and staying at their precious cabin I will for sure go back for some peaceful time as much as I possibly can!!!

Left our worries at the gate
The bird cottage and property could not have been lovelier. We had everything we needed, and the cottage was spotless. The grounds were absolutely lovely, and the owners were wonderful. We felt as though the rest of the world just melted away, and so did our cares. We really enjoyed sitting on the porch just watching and listening to all of the birds.

Beautiful Property, Relaxing Stay, Hospitable Hosts!
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the Bird House! In fact, my kids keep asking, “Can we go to the Bird House?!” We had a lovely stay. The property was beautiful! I am a nature lover, so I was captivated by the magnificent trees and stocked pond. We caught a lot of fish, and we were even able to feed the chickens and collect eggs, and pick fresh berries off the vine behind the cottage. The inside of the house was decorated beautifully, and the stylistic, homey, country, and southern charm were the icing on the cake. They even baked fresh muffins and provided fresh-squeezed orange juice! They were scrumptious! 10/10 would recommend visiting! You won’t be disappointed!

Little Dream Escape in the Pines
We have stayed at a lot of VRBOs, but this was by far the best. Comfortable in every way - quality beds and linens, soft pillows, beautiful views, responsive and friendly hosts and biting fish in the pond. We will be back as soon as possible!

Excellent get-away
The cottage and property was perfect. In spite of the cold weather the cottage was warm, the fireplace was awesome, the fish were biting, the property is located perfectly as well as very safe. Trust the owners with the restaurant suggestions. Everywhere we ate out was delicious. Will be going back and highly recommend.

Anniversary Weekend
WOW! Bird Cottage is amazing. Roland & Susan were beyond the perfect Hosts. I felt like we were home with family, they were so welcoming. The property itself is absolutely gorgeous and so relaxing. All the details that Roland & Susan provided for our anniversary were perfect. They gave us insight to restuarants and the area. We even had car trouble on check out day and Roland was there to the rescue. We could go on and on but I think there is a limit on words!!LOL Just go, you will not be dissappointed. We will back.

This property was fabulous! We enjoyed the wraparound porch and sat there in the mornings with our coffee and in the evenings with our glass of wine. The beds were comfortable! This cabin had a unique spiral staircase to get to the loft. The shower was made with stones that were beautiful and very spacious. This property was perfect for the four of us!

Spectacular visit at Bird Cottage!
Such a nice place to stay!...we were in town for a parent's funeral, and the quiet, peaceful surroundings brought much comfort. We'll definitely come back when we can have a more relaxing visit. The hosts, Susan and Roland, allow guests plenty of space but are easily accessible for as much or as little as you need them. They are kind, friendly folks who accommodated a few of our special needs relative to the circumstances of our visit. Bird Cottage is so well maintained and clean, it is obvious the time and effort put into making it a wonderful place for guests to spend time. Loved the rustic appeal of the cottage and also admired all the updates - the stone shower, WOW! The grounds are beautiful..the outdoors is as well maintained as indoors! Also plenty of open space to roam with our dog. We spent most of our time there on the porch..very spacious, comfortable and a nice cool breeze even in the heat of the day!! And the property is only 10 minutes from town, which can be very convenient..close to most anything you need, but away from it all! Thanks, Roland and Susan..we enjoyed our visit and look forward to staying at Bird Cottage again - Sandy, Tim & Charley

Perfect getaway property
Roland and Susan are the perfect host as they welcome you to their East Texas Shangri La! There is nothing more we could have asked for. The cottage was meticulously clean, comfortable, and warming to the soul. We enjoyed cruising the lake on the paddle boat, walking the ground, fishing, setting on porch enjoying the sounds of nature, and sleeping like babies in fine linens on the comfortable beds. They allowed us to come and view the property beforehand so we could decide on decorations and were great! We really enjoyed the porch and were able to relax and enjoy our guest too! The bird cottage was an excellent get away for my family and I. The bird cottage was quaint and cozy. The woodwork and stone added that rustic touch we were looking for. We enjoyed the tranquility of the property, that of which included bird watching, fishing, small pontoon rides, etc. Each morning we walked the grounds and enjoyed every second here. Roland and his wife were absolutely incredible. We plan on coming back and I would definitely recommend this cottage to everyone.

Perfect weekend getaway!
This property is perfect for a peaceful weekend getaway! The moment we arrived, driving up to the cottage just melted the stress away from our busy hustle and bustle lifestyles! Roland and Susan are perfect hosts, made for hospitality and kindness! The delicious homemade fig pecan mini bundt cakes and OJ, prepared for us as a little morning treat were delicious! Thank you Susan! Waking up to the birds chirping and the rooster crowing was AWESOME, not to mention watching the Brahma Bulls in the field next door every morning was wonderful. We brought our little fur baby and she loved exploring the property with us and did great! We enjoyed a paddle boat ride on the lake our first evening, which was so fun. If you like to fish, Roland and Susan provide a few fishin' poles and some tackle box item as well as a few outdoor type games. We enjoyed coffee on the beautiful porch every morning and loved that outdoor space for a relaxing end to our day, watching the moon and starlight nights adding that little spark of romance to the evenings! Just perfect! We loved our time at Bird Cottage, and hope to come again sometime in the fall to enjoy some smores and use of that firepit when the temperatures are a bit cooler! Roland and Susan, thank you for sharing this little restful haven! It is everything we hoped for and more! God bless you!

Peace and Tranquility
After a crazy year we decided to seek a little bit of peace and tranquility. And we certainly found it at the "Bird Cottage". Roland and Susan really know how to create a beautiful and inviting atmosphere. From the moment we drove thru the stone columns and iron gates I immediately felt the stress release and the warmth sink in. The porch that wraps around the stone cottage was the perfect place for our morning coffee and our afternoon sparkling wine. We took a stroll around the grounds with our dog Cooper who absolutely loved the freedom of running and playing. For us, the house had all the amenities needed and the little extras were greatly appreciated. Like the homemade mini Fig and Pecan bundt cakes left in the fridge for us to enjoy. Along with orange juice. The bed certainly was a bonus and the towel warmer in the bathroom. All so comf!! My favorite was waking up early and looking out over the grounds at the sun peaking thru the trees and tiny birds singing and welcoming us to a new day. These have to be the cleanest, neatest, respectful and enjoyable guests we've had a chance to host. We have nothing but praise for them and their well behaved dog. I only wish they could have stayed longer. Even their review was a piece of prose that a travel guide could have written. I would have given them 6 stars if I could have. The cottage was very unique, quiet and relaxing. Our hosts left us bundt cakes and orange juice for breakfast, these were wonderful. Wish I had the recipe. The grounds were also very well kept and plenty to do if you just wanted to relax at the cottage all day. We were only a few miles from town and it was pretty easy to find. I hope we get another opportunity to return and spend another few days. Thank you for your hospitality and kindness.

SPRING BREAK FOR THE GIRLS
Everyone caught a fish except the wifey poo! she evidently was not holding her rod correctly! lol the girls had a great time and learned to drive! i think !!! bet Roland was tired of seeing my golf cart go by the house all day!

Amazing vacation and even better people
Cottage was very clean and had all the amenities needed. We spent most of our time outside in the large green space in the middle of the estate, on the boat, or tractor. My two toddlers loved every bit of it. Roland and his wife were very friendly and made sure our visit was nothing but top tier. They made sure we had everything we needed and respected our space during COVID19. We will definitely be making a trip back.

We ABSOLUTELY LOVED this place!!!! The most adorable stone cottage we have ever experienced! So clean and cozy! Roland and Susan, we are so sorry we didn't get to spend more time with y'all - y'all are so wonderful!! From the moment Paula and Scott arrived, we knew we were going to enjoy their stay. When we started opening up our property for guests, this is what we'd hoped for - courteous, interesting, respectful, communicative and it was so nice to see them enjoy the property. Nothing short of AMAZING!!
We had such a wonderful time during our stay. The property is AMAZING along with it's hosts. There is so much to do we never left the property during the 3 days we were there. The kids loved wondering around and exploring and we felt safe allowing them to do so. The chickens were so much fun, my kiddos loved watching them and following them around. They thought it was so neat to collect eggs. The lake is beautiful and the paddle boat was a huge hit with my kids. I would highly recommend this place and we will definitely be going back. None of us were ready to leave.

Charming Property
The Bird Cottage is a beautifully built and maintained property that was perfect for our family of 5. Our 3 kiddos under 9 had a blast running around the well enclosed, safe property. The owners were so kind to show us their chickens, fig trees, greenhouse, and bbq pavilion with fishing supplies and a peddle boat to enjoy. I recommend it for anyone trying to "get away" from the hustle and bustle and enjoy a sweet country setting.

The Great Escape
All stress melted away as soon as we entered the gates. What an amazing place! We were very comfortable in the cottage and are already planning a return visit. Our teenaged son loved the loft space. Even more amazing were the owners who are on property and super easy to communicate with. Such nice people and hearing their story about the property was super inspiring!

Family Fun
We came down from DFW for a family getaway and rode the Polar Express. The property is absolutely beautiful. The Cottage was clean and had everything we needed, including a jug of fresh squeezed orange juice and coffee cake from our host. We enjoyed fishing, peddle boating and just taking it easy. Our 2 yr old and 8 yr old had the best time, and it’s only about 1-2 miles from the Polar Express. Highly recommend this property. -Roberts Family

Needed a getaway and this place fit the bill. Enjoyed the quiet time and walking the Davey Dogwood trails. Also learned about growing figs and persimmons in Texas from the owners. Was a good east Texas visit.

Spending time with Lisa and Mike was very enjoyable and fun. They are so curious, respectful and courteous. The cottage was as clean and tidy when they left that there was very little to do other than laundry and resanitizing everything. We felt like we had known them for years. We really hope they come our way again!
