the hotel was slightly dated, we were not ware that having a dog meant we we were not in the main hotel and we had to then dine separately meaning we were the only diners in that area so a little disappointing

Bed comfortable,room nice,staff wonderful facilities very good all in all a lovely relaxing stay.our one slight complaint when we were dining in the window seats we noticed a large amount of spiders webs on the inside of the windows,(just needs a feather duster for 5mins every now and then)

We stay at shap wells about 4 times per year and once again we had a wonderful stay, staff are very friendly and professional and they always let us have a basement room for our sausage dog, we will be back again soon, thank you Paul and Marion machin

The hotel was very remote and miles away from shops. The vicinity had amazing views. Friendly staff and a small room. Very clean !

The location is very special with the feeding of the red squirrels. It is mainly used by coach parties however this can lead to good rates on unsold rooms

Having stayed at this Hotel many times over the years one can say it still delivers its promise. Breakfast was very good as usual but dinner did come short of the expected level in choice and quality.

Situated in most beautiful landscape.

First of all: Perfect serviceminded personel. Welcomed at the reception, Great service at the bar and dinner as Well the mands. Very attentive staff! The hotel is placed in beautiful landscape on the border of The Lake District. Only to recommend.

The hotel is remote and access roads are full of pot holes...take it slow! The hotel is dated and overpriced. The bedrooms are small and very tired looking. The bathroom wasnt clean and needs to be replaced. For one night it is ok, especially after a long drive, if you like 70/80's decor then this is for you.

Worth staying just for the eccentricities

This is a delightfully eccentric hotel that we used to use for Phil Soc events (Lancaster University) in the 70s and a lot is similar. These days it seems to be set up for coach parties and the restaurant reflects that but the food was good for the price. It was a little cold - I had a hot water bottle fortunately but had to refill it twice during the night ...
