This was our second year coming to the Rip Jack villas and it was an excellent stay. Hotel staff was very kind and courteous. Rooms were clean and kept clean daily. The food in the hotel was delicious; we’re still debating who among us had the best meals. This year we traveled with a larger group and everyone had a great time. We will definitely be back next year!

We had a wonderful stay at this beautiful property and loved every moment of our family getaway. Staying in the villas section was a highlight; the area is stunningly landscaped with relaxing hammocks and a shared pool for the 4 villas that we almost always had entirely to ourselves. It provided a perfect, peaceful atmosphere that felt both safe and incredibly calm. The location is truly unbeatable, sitting just a two-minute walk from a spectacular beach. It was a refreshing contrast to the nearby bustle of Tamarindo, offering a quiet stretch of sand that never felt busy. Our kids had a blast playing in the waves and body surfing, though the surf can get quite intense at times! Beyond the natural beauty, the convenience of the property stood out. The villas were well-equipped for our needs, and we were only a short walk away from a local mini-mart and several great restaurants and food trucks. The hotel staff were consistently helpful, communication was always clear, and we thoroughly enjoyed a delicious lunch at the on-site restaurant. I would definitely recommend this property to anyone looking for a convenient yet tranquil retreat.

We stayed in a Villa and I would highly recommend them. They are steps away from the main hotel and resturant but you get a private pool that is only shared with 3 other villas. Housekeeping kept our villa clean the whole time. You are only steps from the beach. It is really the best location to stay in Playa Grande.

Great hotel with great location. They are in the process of updating the property and building what, I think, are private condos, so the overall property is improving. Staff is friendly and fluent in English. Had one run in with an issue due to a door malfunction, and while it was not a positive interaction, in the end, it was resolved amicably. Overall, wonderful location, great people, lovely restaurant with great food and exceptional staff. A great, great property. Critiques would only include small pools, and there are only two; one has been relegated to private access with the property renovation, but Expedia description does not represent that; however, you’re at the ocean. Do you need a big pool? Great place for access to world class waves. Loved my stay despite a one hiccup.

The staff was fantastic, the restaurant (and its staff) is great...if a bit pricy, and the villa we stayed in was perfect for our family of four. The only bummer is the daily construction going on in the surrounding lots. It's constant hammering and power saws from 7am - 4pm. We were up early to surf most days, but it got really bad.

PROS: La habitación (estándar) cumple con lo base. A la hora de la reserva indicaba que máximo 3 personas, así que perfecto al ir con mi esposa e hija. La cama es matrimonial normal (no queen) y, la adicional para mi hija muy cómoda. El tamaño de la habitación es justo. Cuenta con aire acondidicionado y ventilador. Cada habit. tiene una hamaca y un pequeño deck en la parte delantera. En general limpia, buena ropa de cama, limpieza todos los días, etc. Personal amable, buenas instalaciones, impecables los jardines. El restaurante de lo mejor ... la playa solo cruzar la calle y ahí lo encuentra. CONS: baño pequeño, realmente incomodo, (para una persona claustrofóbica debe considerarlo...). Las almohadas parecían piedras para mi gusto particular. Otro detalle este tipo de habitación no tiene TV por si lo requieren. Volvería por la experiencia en general, eso sí a una habitación deluxe (solicitamos upgrade y, no había disponibilidad). El staff super atentos, comida deliciosa, dos piscinas agradables, playa grande a 3 minutos a pie... No se puede pedir más...

The location and vibe was perfect for us! The room was simple, neat, clean and they honored our request for a room with the couch. The bathrooms could use an update or refresh. They are dated. The restaurant was delicious and a nice surprise in this sleepy town. Staff was super friendly and accommodating. Took advantage of yoga which was great. The pools are very small but lots of lounges, hammocks, ping pong and a great lending library! Will definitely return to this sleepy but fabulous town!

Overall, our stay was pleasant, particularly regarding the room, cleanliness, and general comfort, which were all at a good standard. That said, the food and beverage services were clearly the weakest part of the experience. As a Costa Rican who has lived in the United States for many years and returned home on vacation with my wife, I must say that the quality of the coffee was surprisingly poor for a hotel in Costa Rica, a country internationally recognized for its excellent coffee. Additionally, the food did not meet expectations. The gallo pinto, in particular, was not representative of the traditional Costa Rican dish, neither in preparation nor in flavor. For visitors hoping to experience authentic local cuisine, this may be disappointing. Finally, the prices for food were quite high considering the overall quality offered. With some improvements in the culinary experience and a better focus on local authenticity, this hotel could significantly enhance the value of its services.

We really enjoyed our stay at the rip Jack in. We were a family of two adults, two children ages, 10 and 12 and one senior. The location could not have been better. It was right beside the beach. There were lots of restaurants nearby, and the hotel restaurant was excellent. Only downsides were that breakfast was not included, there were a few towels provided, and there was no body lotion. There were several ants in the bathroom, but that is probably unavoidable given the location. The staff was very, very helpful and accommodating. The pools were small, but perfect. Our children loved seeing the iguanas and lizards on the property and really enjoyed the ping-pong table.
