I booked a suite with a king bed and a sofa bed through Expedia but the hotel was overbooked and, without telling me, the manager moved me to a standard room. He said that because the hotel was booked through Expedia rather than through Marriott directly, he did not have to adhere to the class of the room that I booked and if I wasn't happy he would cancel the reservation altogether.
I did not know that it is within hotels' standard practice to cancel or downgrade rooms booked through Expedia. The Expedia representative whom I contacted confirmed that Expedia indeed cannot guarantee the room type that was booked through them. This is quite concerning and something that should be known to customers.
