""A"... perhaps "the" classic ryokan. Relaxed (genuine) gracefullness that is not commercial or something you can teach. It is not a material luxury experience (there are many others who fit this expectation), so much as an unintentional unmannicured view into the past of old Kyoto. Very dreamy for me at least!. It felt like returning to my granny's house in post war Setayaga. Special. There are exceptional people among the staff whose heart beats echo mine and that era."

"Fantastic place to stay in Tokyo... especially with a family. Very clean. Nice view! Great kitchen, TVs, sitting area, washer / dryer. The only challenge was checking in at a separate location however that was a small price to pay for such a great overall experience! "

"Amazing luxury hotel in the best possible location south of Pontocho and across the bridge from Gion. A huge room with a terrace and a sparkling large bathroom with a shower, wooden tub, and river views. Fridge stocked with beer and soft drinks and a washer-dryer for longer stays. None of this comes cheap but go and enjoy."

"Great central location. Walkable to pontocho alley, Gion district, shoji Gion station (5 stops to fushimi inari shrine), Nishiki market, ninja museum etc etc. it’s a beautiful hotel with top floor bar and 3rd floor lounge with free coffee, wine and snacks in afternoons. "

"Wonderful stay in Kyoto with convenient location near bus, subway, Nishiki Market and Pontocho Alley. Friendly staff and comfortable rooms. Heads up kids over age 6 are considered adults for the room. Be sure to explore the alley ways off the market streets for fun bars and delicious food options. The free sake tasting was a fun treat as well. Would definitely go back."

"An amazing blend of modern with Japanese decor. Well appointed rooms with comfortable bed, amazing overhead rain shower, and decent square footage for luggage. Perfect location for shopping, Nishiki market, fabulous restaurants, etc. all walkable. The Bettei side is higher end with more in room and property amenities. I highly recommend this hotel. "
