The property is great. The amenities are quality- nothing is cheap… kitchen is stocked & utensils are not flimsy- bedding is nice. Some good touches like under mount lighting in the bathroom that comes on as you walk in- the temperature is easy to keep constant (which is rare in units) it’s very walkable and the parking is easy ($60 per night). Lots of good. The unit itself is very nice. My only complaint is that the furniture is stained and filthy… one chair had caked food and hair (a good vacuuming would have helped) the sofa cushions are broken down & uncomfortable) the bar chairs are very gross and the fabric is stained. They have not appeared to have been cleaned at all… it really is a shame… as an interior designer this is a pretty easy fix. I would love to give them a 5 out of 5. This is just blatant and could not br ignored.
Located midway between the Arts District along Congress Street and the Port District along Commercial Street, this property is very convenient, but admittedly a little hard to find. These are loft units in a building that is otherwise unmarked, situated more like an apartment building with storefronts at street level. But once you find where it is and where to enter, the rest is pretty simple. The loft we stayed in was very much like a large one-bedroom apartment, with a full kitchen, full bath and all necessary amenities. There is a self-parking garage adjacent to the building to park your vehicle (an additional charge), which allows you the convenience of walking to the local sights, shops and restaurants in the area, of which there are many. Overall, a very comfortable stay.
Beautiful hotel, wonderful location. My only note is that the bed and pillows were not as comfortable as I would expect from this kind of boutique hotel. Standard size pillows only, no king size pillows and no lumbar pillows, and a fairly hard mattress with a thin pad. The night before my stay, I stayed in a converted motel for 25% of the Docent’s price that had far superior bedding.
It’s a good place to stay when rates aren’t sky high. Paying over $300 a night plus $60 to self park for Portland is ridiculous.
Clean rooms, quiet. The digital key system is a hassle to get working if you’re not using Safari on iOS.
This accommodation was in an excellent location for restaurants and attending events. We were able to park our car and walk without concern. We found the accommodation well furnished with a well equipped kitchen. We would have liked to stay longer and will likely return.
We thoroughly enjoyed our 4-night stay at The Docent's Collection. The staff was outstanding (shout-out to Spencer and Sarah!). The apartment we stayed in was roomy, impeccably clean, and well-furnished. We had everything we needed for our stay. Security was great, parking was easy, and right next to a police parking lot, so very secure. We look forward to staying here again!
The space was fantastic! A wonderfully modern aesthetic, great lighting, fully stocked with appliances, cookware, and dinnerware for anyone who wants to cook and stay indoors. I wish the lamps weren't all attached to switches (it's nice to just click them on and off), but I suppose others might like the convenience. The overhead shower was lovely, the bed was super comfortable, and I loved the full-length and sizable mirror in the bedroom. I had to refresh my Flexipass before every use (outside door, elevator, room door), but once I figured that out, access was super easy with no issues. I also loved that the couch was a very comfortable twin size that I could've taken a nap on if I'd wanted to!
Fantastic location, and a beautiful space to call home for a few days. I loved looking out in the morning at the seagulls perched on the roof of the building next door!
Property is in an excellent location with so much to see and do (and eat) in walking distance. My room was clean, quiet, and well maintained. Staff interaction was minimal (by design) but the few times I spoke with the concierge on site she was pleasant and accommodating. My only negative comment is regarding the toiletry products. I’m a toilet paper snob and that angel soft just doesn’t cut it. Overall I am beyond satisfied with my stay and would absolutely stay here again.
Loved this hotel! Our room was spacious, clean, and the staff was very responsive and accommodating. We had a plane cancellation so we had to book an additional 1 night stay last minute and that was not an issue. 100% would recommend!
Check-in and check-out are a breeze, easy access to a city parking lot on the block (needed as there was a snow ban on parking when I visited!). In terms of the space itself - clean, well appointed, spacious. Honestly a treat to stay here!
I cannot say enough about our stay at The Docent. Our room was outstanding.

Disliked: Staff & service, amenities
The only live person I saw was at check-in. There was some back-and-forth about my access number, where the building was, and how to get in.
That person was very attentive and actually took me up to my loft. There were no directions on how to use the stove top. There were fingerprints on it, indicating the person before me may have had the same issue. The microwave was in a cabinet under the sink, and to use it, you had to sit on the floor. None of the clocks in the loft was set to the correct time; they were all different (attention to detail). There were no instructions for using the coffee maker, and after the first day, no one refilled the water, cream, coffee, or sugar. However, there was a small card with a QR code to tip someone who never came. The online description indicated a gym, and a sign stated that a gym was nearby, but it didn't specify where.
