Please save yourselves the money and go elsewhere.
Overall, this resort has been declining in it's accommodation, food, amenities and overall customer service. We as a family have been visiting the Bahia Principe 'LUXURY' Esmeralda since 2015 on and off.
The Esmeralda was initially a lovely experience with exceptional service and accommodation. The hotel claims to have been recently renovated and there was absolutely no evidence of this and certainly nothing 'luxurious' about the experience.
Room: We had two rooms as a family, traveling with teenage kids. Our room was dirty and the bathroom smelt of sewage most nights. The bathtub in our room looked like someone had tried to crawl their way out of it. There were cracks and dents with paint chipping, it could not be used.
Food: Absolutely horrible. The buffet was a repeat everyday with very little variation. The quality has declined significantly.
The à la carte restaurants were worse than the buffets.
We booked into the Indian restaurant one evening, looked at the menu and just walked out. There was nothing on the menu that even resembled Indian food, there were items such as Brioche & Croquette, yet the restaurant was called (Naan_meaning bread)
Unfortunately for us, this would be the last time we will visit the Esmeralda. The time spent with the family was priceless, however I honestly believe that the rating should be a 3.5 Star.
A 5 star rating is really overrated.
