Nikko Kanaya Hotel

Nikko Kanaya Hotel

10/10 Excellent
"It is a classic hotel but the annex building is fully renovated and beautiful. The room was comfortable with nice amenities. It was so calm and peaceful. I loved the tea set they provided and enjoyed the room overlooking the garden outside. Had very comfortable beds. Staff was nice and welcoming. Breakfast was nice too. The only downside was lack of dinner options in the area. We did a room service one night and had their famous curry… which was alright but expensive. We also had a meal at Meiji no Yakata nearby which was great. I think most restaurants were closed for dinner on weekdays though. There was a really good yuba place for lunch closed to the hotel."

Fairfield by Marriott Tochigi Nikko

Fairfield by Marriott Tochigi Nikko

10/10 Excellent
"This is a terrific basic hotel with very clean and stylish Western-style rooms (albeit with the small Japanese beds) and public spaces at reasonable rates. Would definitely stay here again. It is a bit out of the way from central Nikko (up a hill from the train stations, and a bit too far on rural roads to be truly walkable), but cabs are cheap and the hotel runs a free shuttle to the stations in the morning and late afternoon. Also there is no restaurant on-site. However, there’s free tea/coffee/miso soup in the lobby, basic food items for sale at the front desk, and a good breakfast truck (with Western breakfast items and coffee) comes by from 7-10 am."

Candeo Hotels Utsunomiya

Candeo Hotels Utsunomiya

8/10 Good
"A Convenient and Comfortable Stay in Utsunomiya Whenever I visit Utsunomiya, I always choose Candeo Hotels Utsunomiya because of its unbeatable location. It's directly connected to Utsunomiya Station, making it incredibly convenient whether you're arriving by train or heading out for the day. The room is spacious enough to fully open large suitcases, which is something I always appreciate. I especially like the long daybed by the window—it provides a comfortable place to relax, read, or simply enjoy the view. The hotel is also connected to Utsunomiya Terrace, where you'll find a variety of restaurants and a supermarket, making meals and shopping extremely convenient. The hotel has self-service washers and dryers, and payments can be made through a phone app, which is very convenient. However, the dryers cost ¥200 for every 10 minutes, so doing laundry can become a bit expensive. Guests also have complimentary access to the Sky Spa on the top floor. While it's a beautiful facility, it's not a natural hot spring (onsen). During my three-night stay, I only visited it once because I found it more relaxing to soak in the bathtub in my own room rather than take the elevator up to the 14th floor. The breakfast buffet was enjoyable, with a good variety of choices. My only suggestion would be to provide trays, as it would make it much easier to carry multiple dishes and drinks in one trip instead of making several trips back and forth."

Kinugawa Onsen Hotel

Kinugawa Onsen Hotel

8/10 Good
"Unfortunately this property did not meet expectations and was grossly overpriced. The Japanese style room was very dated but a nice size. Good AC. The food was great and there were a lot of options. The property needed to be cleaned and updated. The area outside of the property is shocking. It is filled with abandoned buildings that are various states of disrepair. It felt unsafe. Transportation wasn’t great. I booked the bus- which is said to be an amenity- only to learn we had to pay getting off. Good thing I had cash. People were nice but I’d never go back."

"The location was great Install translate before you go Ask for a bus timetable and the free tickets you get as part of your stay Uber does not work out near Nasu, no uber eats or car rides Install go taxi, it's there uber equivalent Food is scarce around the hotel so plan ahead and get food from the local shops, family marts are great, 7elevens are ok to If you eat at the buffet restaurant at the hotel you need to book it as part of the hotel booking. We did not and it cost me $214 (aud) for 2 adults and 1 child, we didn't know this ahead of time. The hot springs / baths are a no cloths zone, kids 6 and older and men and woman are just all in the same water together naked, nothing against there culture it just wasn't for me. There are claw machines absolutely everywhere in Japan so if your taking kids be sure to always have some coins on you, they range for 100¥ to 500¥ Nasu highlands park was amazing Nasu safari park was good, very small but pretty cool getting up so close with so many animals."
