Accomodations were great for our group of snowmobilers. We were able to park 2 trucks and trailers in the parking area. Shelving right inside the door was handy for organizing gear. Open floor plan and bar was great. Would stay again!

Stayed one night to ride snowmobile up the keweenaw. Fantastic location, literally ON the trail. Great bars down the block. Hosts were very communicative and friendly. Clean place with tons of space to hang out. Nice use of an old building with cool history. Will be back!

We stayed here while in town for our daughter’s wedding. The reception was right across the street at the Fire Hall. Obviously the location couldn’t have been any better! We had our 7 mo old grandson also and when he was fussy we had plenty of space to push him around in his stroller. Vern was a great host, very quick to respond to questions!

Very large open room with plenty of seating at two bars and couches. Very capable kitchen to prepare culinary creations. Beds are super comfortable. Lots of space to store stuff. Perfect location for sportsmen, snowmobilers, and ATV riders

It is a pleasure to stay at Vern and Victoria’s property in South Range. This is our 2nd stay, the 1st one was in August 2020, and it was another smooth trip. We enjoyed the addition of the dishwasher! The bed was comfortable, heating was just perfect even with fluctuations in outside temperatures. For the 1st time we even turned the tv on. This is a perfect location for parents who want to visit their student at Michigan Tech! Would certainly make this a three-pet when we visit our Husky next year.

Our family enjoyed our stay in South Range at this very unique rental. It takes "open concept" to a new level, in the best possible way. There was plenty of room for my husband and our four children. The property lends itself to lots of speculation about the past life of the rental, as well as conversations around all the possibilities the space has to offer. The owners were quick to communicate. The rental provided maps and other tips about "must see" things in the area. This is property is definitely a value for travelers.

Perfect location for jumping off point to the Houghton/Hancock area. Everything was just a described. Loved the mattress topper for the double bed-very comfy. Appreciated Vern for having a slow cooker ready for our use. Vern was also speedy in responding to questions. Protocol for using unit. various nearby items of interest and checkout were very clear. Would certainly stay here again. BTW, this unit would be awesome for a group of guys/gals who love to ride trails on quads/dirt bikes/ side-by-sides as the rv trail is right next to the building! Lots of of hot water for a relaxing shower after getting off of the trails.

Might be okay for a group of local guys, but all others be warned. Hostile, run-down area next to a laundromat and dive bar. Sketchy drunk guys watching/following us. Multiple security loopholes in the access system, any of those loiterers outside could breach if they were bored and wanted to. Shoddily repaired window frames, possibly indicating a past break in. If you look at the reviews, another woman mentions people trying to break in during her stay. Finding the "murder hole" was the last straw. It's not uncommon to find tunnels connecting these old storefronts, and the fact that it had a lock for show but wasn't actually locked, nor was it ABLE to be locked made us wonder what kind of an operation is being run here. (Why would someone place a dummy lock on a door?) Appeared to be accessible to other building tenants. I've slept outside with wolves, I've slept in hostels, in Chicago and you couldn't pay me to sleep here. Even worse, when I contacted the owner and politely asked for my money back, he accused me of extortion (like I would bother extorting someone for a hundred bucks!) and insisted that nothing was wrong with the property. I fear for the safety of anyone staying here, especially since the host seems to be completely dismissive of the safety of his tenants. It's evident from the photos that he's okay with a haphazard approach to home renovation, but it's not okay to take a haphazard approach to safety, especially for women & minority tenants.

The pros and the cons of this property: We travel to Houghton several times a year for ski races and it is never fun cramming 4 people into a small hotel room. Lodging costs are high and availability always low during the Winter in Houghton. This property is an alternative that gives you physical space when traveling. The pros: it is unique, in a building with history. You have your own entrance and plenty of room to park. Beds were comfortable enough and there are some recent updates. It is huge, I mean huge. Pictures do not do it justice, we laughed and said we could have brought my daughters tricycle to bike inside. The pros/cons combined. It is on a snowmobile trail, literally. Great for a group that is riding, but if your not during certain hours the noise can be strong. Cons: This is an older building and you have to be open to understanding that. Paint peeling, furnace hissing and making noises that you may not be used to if you are unfamiliar with steam radiant heating (this is discussed in owners description as well), appliances pretty old etc...it has all that character. If your a clean freak the kitchen may not be for you. You are truly in a retail store front-the big window in the front is part of the lodging. My kids got a kick out of walking on the large platform and getting their photos taken like they were mannequins in the window-and the fact that they had a candy machine and soda machine inside the rental (they were out of order) but the wall that was built in front of the retail window, on the interior of the lodging only goes 2/3rd of the way up and does let in quite a bit of street light during the night with no way to block it. Checking in-we were given the key code but the only way we kind of knew where to go was by the VRBO photo with Lake Superior on the door. The address only brings you to the entire building. It looks like your entering an empty building from the outside, so don't be fooled by that, as there are several entrances to the other ground level locations and upper apartments but this is the actual door you enter to get into the rental. All and all its a good place to stay with a group or family-heck you even have your own huge bar inside. But this may not be the place for everyone. The owner does state that they are "continuing growth with this unit" and I would say that is accurate.

Overall we enjoyed our stay but your place has a few problems. The bathroom ,especially the toilet is difficult to use for elderly and disabled. It is low and is at a wierd angle making hard on bigger disabled people. Some of the building looks like a work in progress. The bunkbed that is in there squeaks something terrible. Every time my son would turn over or get up it would wake us all up. I liked the fact that it basically an antique and I appreciate the efforts that you have made. We loved the spaciousness and the homey feel of the place. Overall I feel you are offering great value and I would highly recommend your place to friends. Thank you for letting us stay there and for replying so quickly to my inquiries.
