Only a short distance upriver from Noosa Heads, this historic village teems with native wildlife and has stunning river views.

With lush waterways, a bustling marina and beautiful forests, the village of Tewantin has something to offer every type of traveller. Relax and enjoy swimming in the beautiful river or have a boating adventure. Go hiking to see native flora and fauna or climb Mount Tinbeerwah.

The name Tewantin is an anglicized version of the Aboriginal name for the area, Dauwadhum, meaning place of dead logs. Historically, Tewantin was the river port for the Noosa area. Today, Tewantin is home to quaint shops, cafés and the lively Noosa Marina. The village is also the launching point for the vehicular ferry to Noosa North Shore and beyond to the Great Sandy National Park and Fraser Island.

Spot native wildlife and enjoy a picnic in the Tewantin Forest Reserve, set in the bush surrounding Mount Tinbeerwah. Take the trail to the top of Mount Tinbeerwah for magnificent views of the ocean, lakes and Noosa hinterland. You can also hire a professional guide and try abseiling down the mountain.

Play a round of golf at the Tewantin Noosa Golf Course, one of the best courses on the Sunshine Coast. Spot kangaroos and possibly a koala as you play. Then have a post-round drink at the clubhouse restaurant.

On Sunday morning, head to Noosa Marina for the Noosa Harbour Markets. This bustling art, craft and produce market features live music and entertainment from local and interstate musicians. Noosa Marina is also a great place to have a coffee or meal overlooking the river.

Explore the ocean by taking a boat tour or renting your own boat. These can be booked at the Visitor Information Centre in the marina.

Tewantin is about a 10-minute drive from Noosa Heads. Alternatively, take the Noosa Ferry to Noosa Marina and stroll along the riverside to Tewantin. By road, Tewantin is just under 2 hours from Brisbane via the Bruce Highway. Enjoy views of the Glass House Mountains on your drive north.
