This is a really fabulous small hotel. The mostly young staff are wonderful and have really good customer service skills. The room we had was large and warm and really nicely decorated. The bed was comfortable with sufficient pillows and some nice cushions.It was apparent that thought had been put in to all aspects of our stay. There were lovely little touches in the room - biscuits, fresh coffee and a cafetière, an extra blanket, and even recycling facilities in the room itself. We had a vegan breakfast in a really comfortable dining room, which was well decorated also. I needed a quiet space for an online meeting and staff did their very best to help to provide this for me. In the end this didn’t work because of my own technology issues and bad planning, which wasn’t the fault of the hotel. The hotel is really close to lots of restaurants and takeaways meaning it was a very handy location.

Room was cold as only a tiny part of radiator gave out heat, obviously needed attention. Hideous site outside window, old radiators and old guttering, bathroom sink so tiny couldn't get kettle under tap to fill it, and also sink leaked underneath and dripped on floor making slip hazard, toilet flush handle broken, bedroom carpet patched and filthy, in hall outside no carpet so heard people walking loudly and night watchman walking through nighttime and slamming doors, breakfast not available until after 8am so given 'Grab and Go' bag consisting of a plain croissant, a banana and a health bar. Only good thing was sheets and towels clean. Would not recommend staying ever. Certainly not worth £122 per night. 1 star hotel at best. Awful. Save your money and go elsewhere.

It was my third or fourth stay here. Always very helpful and friendly staff, always great service, breakfast is decent, rooms are comfortable, and it doesn't cost the earth.

Words just can’t express how overwhelmingly happy we are with our stay with the Great Western Hotel, Taunton. The building itself is beautiful and lovingly kept, with every aesthetic detail exuding style and quality! Our room was lovely with stylish decor and little touches like a real cafetière, instead of instant coffee, made it feel more personal. Breakfast was high quality and again, personalised! The staff were more than happy to fully adjust the menu to meet our preferences and were just delightful. I feel very strongly that the staff deserve a special thank you… each and every member of their team went above and beyond to make myself and my daughter feel welcome and comfortable. My very nervous daughter was about to sit her first GCSE in Taunton, hence the overnight stay, and the staff were just so beautiful with her and really helped to reassure her. She went off to the exam centre beaming! In addition to all of this- they allowed us to use their parking, free of charge while we went into the town for lunch after the exam. I have stayed in many hotels over the year, but this little gem is by far the best yet. I can’t recommend enough. A huge thank you for making a potentially stressful trip a pure delight! ❤️

A perfect stay.

We came by rail. The choice of food was perfect. A smaller kettle would have been an advantage - to fit better under the tap. Also a larger coffee pot, so that it contained a 'top up'. One of the best hotels we have stayed at. Thankyou.
