  • The Rio Grande River winds 12 miles down Santa Elena Canyon in Big Bend National Park, Texas. When the water is high you can come down the 1,500 foot walled canyon. With less water flowing, guides take you 3 to 4 miles up the canyon with some spots having to portage. But take it all in stride because the views are breathtaking. I recommend Big Bend River Tours. You might get lucky and have the guides that take you a half mile up a side canyon. An excellent day excursion in the out of the way national park.

We hiked further than the 0.7 mile indicated on the signage, and ended up scooting and scrambling up the most interesting narrow and smooth chutes. We heard the song of the elusive canyon wren, too. Beautiful views! The law office cabin was cozy and it was nice to have access to a full kitchen to be able to use and the continental breakfast was nice.

Ten Bits is a great place. Beautiful views, comfortable accommodations, friendly atmosphere and the peace and quiet. I will mention one thing... Don't ride a motorcycle there. The 2 miles dirt and rock road leading to the place can be a little taxing even for strong and experienced riders. Aside from that, wonderful experience!

This is our second time back to Ten Bits Ranch. The 2nd time was even better. We stayed a little longer this go around. There is a new stove in the community kitchen, a very nice, big stove. The only thing I might add is that you bring your own knife for cutting your food, they do provide knives but they do need sharpening. Also, if you’re going to use the outdoor grills, you may want to bring a grill cleaner, that is not provided. Lastly if you cook too much food, like I did, you may wanna bring containers to store your leftovers. Aside from that, I love the kitchen! It’s big, it’s nice and it has almost everything you need; and it’s kept very clean. As for the room number 20 we did not have a good solid internet connection. We had great connection outside the room. The best part about the ranch is it’s hidden back far from any highway noise. If you’re looking for peace, quiet and relaxation Ten Bits Ranch is for you. I will be returning with my kids.

Perfect place to stay while in Big Bend. The houses are small but have everything you need, including a private fire pit and a set of armchairs to enjoy stargazing at night. A fully equipped kitchen with a self service breakfast is a super comfy add on. Just great!

Great accommodations! It was so nice to be off the beaten path for a few days. Manager was very responsive when we had an issue with the door lock and key pad. Would definitely stay here again!
